30 Best Movie Remakes (and Reboots) of the Past 30 Years
Hollywood may be in love with remakes, but critics don't usually share those warm feelings. Nevertheless, revisiting an old property can sometimes prove fruitful, and not just commercially. In the gallery above, you'll find the best-reviewed remakes and franchise reboots of the past three decades, ranked by Metascore. (Note that a movie must have at least 7 reviews from professional critics to be eligible.)
Original: ▣ Let the Right One In (2008), directed by Tomas Alfredson
The horror genre is lousy with remakes, and many of them wind up being, well, lousy. But there are some exceptions, including 1978's Invasion of the Body Snatchers and the 1986 version of The Fly (both of which pre-date the 30-year cutoff for this list). And if you are looking for a good English-language adaptation of a foreign horror film, there is none better than this 2010 remake of the acclaimed Swedish vampire film Let the Right One In (based in turn on John Ajvide Lindqvist's novel). The remake comes from Cloverfield director Matt Reeves, who would go on to helm two acclaimed installments in the rebooted Planet of the Apes series.
