25 Best Horror Films of the Past Decade
Looking for some scares this spooky season? Our list above is all treats, no tricks: It includes the 25 best-reviewed horror films of the 2010s, ranked by Metascore.
Set in 1976, Peter Strickland’s sophomore feature stars Toby Jones as a British sound engineer who travels to Rome to work on the post-production sound mix of The Equestrian Vortex, a horror film about witchcraft set in an all-girl riding academy. While there, Jones’s character begins to suffer from his own vortex of madness as he struggles to distinguish between what is real and what is not. Strickland’s homage to Italian giallo horror of the 1970s is a surprisingly bloodless one, but still gruesome in its own way thanks to his expert use of sound.
“Strickland's Berberian Sound Studio is one horror film that opts to skip the usual frolic among those metaphorical monsters in favor of a deeply unsettling dive into the subconscious.” —Ian Buckwalter, NPR
