Which albums have impressed critics the most during the first half of the year? Above, we rank the best-reviewed LPs released between January 1, 2022 and June 30, 2022 by Metascore. Albums must have at least 7 reviews from professional critics to be eligible, and resissues, EPs, live albums, and compilations are excluded.
Well, it's not a new Radiohead album, but it's close. The Smile finds that band's frontman and guitarist (Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood) joined by jazz drummer Tom Skinner (of Sons of Kemet) and longtime producer Nigel Godrich, and their debut album—written in part during the COVID lockdown—may be the best release by a Radiohead side project to date. The fact that it pretty much sounds like Radiohead probably doesn't hurt.
