Which albums have impressed critics the most during the first half of the year? Above, we rank the best-reviewed LPs released between January 1, 2022 and June 30, 2022 by Metascore. Albums must have at least 7 reviews from professional critics to be eligible, and resissues, EPs, live albums, and compilations are excluded.
In singer-songwriter Angel Olsen's impressive discography, only 2019's All Mirrors has a higher Metascore than her follow-up 2022 effort Big Time, which finds her veering into country music territory more overtly than in the past. The new album also finds Olsen drawing inspiration from her recent coming-out as well as the loss of both of her parents, and its release was accompanied by a 27-minute film directed by Kimberly Stuckwisch.
