Which albums have impressed critics the most during the first half of the year? Above, we rank the best-reviewed LPs released between January 1, 2021 and June 30, 2021 by Metascore. Albums must have at least 7 reviews from professional critics to be eligible, and resissues, EPs, live albums, and compilations are excluded.
The widely acclaimed hip hop producer typically records with other artists, like his excellent recent collaborations with Freddie Gibbs (and earlier with the late MF Doom as Madvillain). But this 2021 solo instrumental LP proves that he can impress critics on his own, too (though it is a collaboration of sorts, with Four Tet's Kieran Hebden lending a hand on the mix).
