The 20 Best Albums of 2021 So Far
Which albums have impressed critics the most during the first half of the year? Above, we rank the best-reviewed LPs released between January 1, 2021 and June 30, 2021 by Metascore. Albums must have at least 7 reviews from professional critics to be eligible, and resissues, EPs, live albums, and compilations are excluded.
In 2019, American roots/country/folk artist Rhiannon Giddens released There Is No Other, a terrific collaboration with Italian multi-instrumentalist Francesco Turrisi. This spring, the pair released a second collaboration—recorded in just six days during lockdown in Ireland, the couple's current home—and it might be even better.
“Albums like They’re Calling Me Home are so effortlessly masterful, so mesmerizing, that the listener can write them off as easily replicable. But the work of Giddens and Turrisi is unique to them. Utterly perfect in its breadth and message, Home is, indeed, where the heart is.” —Under the Radar
