Which albums have impressed critics the most during the first half of the year? Above, we rank the best-reviewed LPs released between January 1, 2020 and June 30, 2020 by Metascore. Albums must have at least 7 reviews from professional critics to be eligible, and resissues, EPs, live albums, and compilations are excluded.
The 79-year-old legend's first album of original songs since 2012's Tempest is far better than it has any right to be, earning Dylan his highest Metascore (for new releases) of the 21st century. And, by debuting at #2, Ways made Dylan the first artist in music history to land a Billboard top 40 album in seven consecutive decades. Guests include Fiona Apple, the only artist to score higher than Dylan this year so far.
