Dramedy series debuts August 12 on Prime Video
Few people remember that Penny Marshall's classic 1992 sports comedy, about a WWII-era professional women's baseball league, was adapted into a television series once before: In 1993, for CBS, where it lasted all of three episodes before getting pulled from the schedule. But Amazon's new reboot is guaranteed to do better: Eight episodes will stream on August 12. Only the underlying 1943 women's pro league setting remains in the new series, which comes from Abbi Jacobson (co-creator and star of Broad City) and Will Graham (Mozart in the Jungle); otherwise, the cast, characters and story will be almost entirely new, and the women will be playing for a different team (not the Peaches).
Jacobson stars alongside D'Arcy Carden, Kelly McCormack, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Chanté Adams, and Kate Berlant, while Nick Offerman plays the team's manager. (His opinion about crying in baseball is unknown at press time.) Also expected to appear is Rosie O'Donnell, the one returning cast member from the original film.
