Movie debuts August 6 on HBO Max
Can director James Gunn bring some of his Guardians of the Galaxy magic to a DC Comics property? The answer, according to early reviews, is a firm "yes." Both a sequel to and a reboot of 2016's deeply mediocre Suicide Squad, the new film finds Gunn taking over from director David Ayer. Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, and Viola Davis return from the previous film, while new faces include John Cena (as Peacemaker), Idris Elba (Bloodsport), Peter Capaldi (The Thinker), and Sylvester Stallone. Critics admit it's "derivative" but find the lively new Squad to be one of the most fun superhero movies (for DC or Marvel) in years. The film will screen for one month on HBO Max concurrent with its theatrical release.
