10 Films to See in August
August may not be a strong month for quality blockbuster releases—just look at the advance reviews for Suicide Squad, for example—but that doesn't mean there won't be anything good to see in theaters. Below, we pick out the month's most promising new films, including several Sundance hits.
After the critical success of 2012’s Keep the Lights On and 2014’s Love Is Strange, writer-director Ira Sachs returned to Sundance earlier this year with another film co-written by Mauricio Zacharias. Focusing on how the friendship between middle schoolers Jake (Theo Taplitz) and Tony (Michael Barbieri) is impacted by the dispute between Jake's father (Greg Kinnear), and Tony's mother (Paulina Garcia) over a rental property, Sachs once again impressed critics with his humane approach to common modern problems.
