10 Films to See in August
August may not be a strong month for quality blockbuster releases—just look at the advance reviews for Suicide Squad, for example—but that doesn't mean there won't be anything good to see in theaters. Below, we pick out the month's most promising new films, including several Sundance hits.
The latest release from the stop-motion animators at Laika tells the story of Kubo (Art Parkinson of Game of Thrones) who, with the help of Monkey (Charlize Theron) and Beetle (Matthew McConaughey), must find the armor of his fallen father, the greatest samurai warrior the world has ever known. As with Laika's previous features (Coraline, ParaNorman and The Boxtrolls), the visuals appear to be stunning, but that doesn’t mean the studio skimped on voice talent, as George Takei, Rooney Mara and Ralph Fiennes all add to this unique film.
