Sci-fi series debuts April 11 on HBO. The first series created by Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) since Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in 2013, The Nevers is an original story that follows a group of women in late Victorian-era England with unusual abilities who find themselves in a position to change the world. Whedon was deeply involved with the series as writer and director while serving as showrunner for the first time since Dollhouse over a decade ago, but he stepped away from the project midway through production last fall (likely, though unofficially, due to the surfacing of harassment charges against Whedon on prior productions) and was replaced by Philippa Goslett, a British screenwriter. Pandemic-related production delays also mean that just six episodes will air in the coming weeks, with the back half of season 1 (at least four more episodes) to follow at a much later date, likely in 2022. Laura Donnelly, Ann Skelly, Olivia Williams, James Norton, Tom Riley, Nick Frost, and Ben Chaplin star.
