14 Films to See in April
In addition to the eighth Fast and Furious film, the month ahead will bring a monster movie comedy, an adaptation of Dave Eggers' tech industry novel, and new films from Joe Swanberg, Ben Wheatley, and Cristian Mungiu, and more. In addition to a dozen notable theatrical releases, we have also included a pair of promising new Netflix exclusives streaming later this week.
At last year's Cannes Film Festival, Cristian Mungiu shared the Best Director prize with Olivier Assayas for this drama about a doctor who compromises his values to help his daughter keep her scholarship to study in the UK. While some critics believe the film doesn’t quite reach the heights of Mungiu’s Palme D’Or winning 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days or his Cannes actress/screenplay winner Beyond the Hills, excellent early reviews suggest that Graduation is a film that fans of the Romanian New Wave should not miss.
