14 Films to See in April
In addition to the eighth Fast and Furious film, the month ahead will bring a monster movie comedy, an adaptation of Dave Eggers' tech industry novel, and new films from Joe Swanberg, Ben Wheatley, and Cristian Mungiu, and more. In addition to a dozen notable theatrical releases, we have also included a pair of promising new Netflix exclusives streaming later this week.
Can the Fast and Furious franchise push the boundaries of believability even more than it already has? If the trailers and early reactions to the newest film are any indication, the answer is yes. Following Furious 7 (the biggest hit in the franchise so far), the creative team hired F. Gary Gray (coming off his critical and box office hit Straight Outta Compton) to start a new trilogy that sees Dom (Vin Diesel) seduced to the dark side by a mysterious woman played by Charlize Theron. Despite rumors of on-set bickering between Diesel and Dwayne Johnson, expect the family to be back for at least two more installments.
