10 Films to See in April
Thanks to a recent date change, April's most intriguing movie—Richard Linklater's Dazed and Confused semi-sequel Everybody Wants Some!!—is technically a March release, opening in select theaters tomorrow. But you can see it in April, along with new films from Jeremy Saulnier, Don Cheadle, John Carney, Aleksandr Sokurov, Joachim Trier, and more.
Brazilian writer-director Gabriel Mascaro’s second narrative feature surprised critics (in a good way) when it showed in Venice and Toronto last fall. Coming just a year after he found festival success with his first feature, August Winds, Neon Bull takes viewers into the world of vaquejada, a traditional sport in which cowboys try to pull bulls down by their tails. The elliptical narrative focuses on Iremar (Juliano Cazarré), who designs outfits for dancers in his spare time while dreaming of making fashion his vocation.
