10 Films to See in April
Thanks to a recent date change, April's most intriguing movie—Richard Linklater's Dazed and Confused semi-sequel Everybody Wants Some!!—is technically a March release, opening in select theaters tomorrow. But you can see it in April, along with new films from Jeremy Saulnier, Don Cheadle, John Carney, Aleksandr Sokurov, Joachim Trier, and more.
Set in Havana, Cuba, this Spanish-language film from director Paddy Breathnach (I Went Down) was Ireland’s submission for best foreign language film at this year’s Academy Awards. (It made the shortlist of nine films but failed to earn one of the five nominations.) Héctor Medina stars as Jesus, a hairdresser for a troupe of drag performers who dreams of becoming a performer himself. When Jesus gets his chance, his father, Angel, confronts him, transforming the story from a coming of age tale to a love story between father and son.
