10 Films to See in April
Thanks to a recent date change, April's most intriguing movie—Richard Linklater's Dazed and Confused semi-sequel Everybody Wants Some!!—is technically a March release, opening in select theaters tomorrow. But you can see it in April, along with new films from Jeremy Saulnier, Don Cheadle, John Carney, Aleksandr Sokurov, Joachim Trier, and more.
Richard Linklater’s “spiritual sequel” to Dazed and Confused follows a group of '80s college baseball players over one weekend before the start of the new school year. Blake Jenner’s Jake, a freshman pitcher, serves as the audience's conduit to a testosterone-filled team that most critics found fun to hang out with (though a few did not). Zoey Deutch plays Beverly, Jake’s love interest, and some critics wished there were more well-rounded female characters like her throughout the whole narrative. As a whole, however, the early reaction to Linklater’s latest has been overwhelmingly positive, making it a sure bet to join its predecessor in late-night showings at revival houses across the country for decades to come.
