Finally released in a few theaters last Friday (nearly a full two years after it originally debuted at Cannes), this biopic about legendary singer/activist Nina Simone was plagued by production problems and controversy surrounding the decision to cast Zoe Saldana as Simone despite the fact that the actress was a poor fit in age, voice, and appearance. Saldana, unfortunately, does little here to prove the critics wrong, though her performance is just one of numerous problems with the film.
