2020 Games Preview: 40 Notable Releases Including Cyberpunk 2077, The Last of Us Part II, and More
In the gallery above, find details on the most-anticipated games that are expected to be released for PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC during 2020. (They're listed in alphabetical order.) While our list only includes games with confirmed release dates or that seem more likely than not to come out this year, you'll also find some of the more remote possibilities for 2020 compiled at the end of the gallery.
These titles could conceivably surface toward the end of the year, but seem more likely to arrive in 2021 ...
Age of Empires IV
The first main game in the Age of Empires real-time strategy series since 2005 is being developed by Relic, best known for Company of Heroes.
Babylon's Fall
A new IP from Bayonetta studio PlatinumGames (see next item) and Square Enix, Fall is a fantasy action-adventure game that is heading to PS4 and PC. It's likely that few details will surface about the new game prior to E3.
Bayonetta 3
The sequel to the 2014 hack-and-slash game from PlatinumGames will be a Switch exclusive whenever it does show up. Development updates have been few and far between since the game's reveal in 2017, but signs are pointing to some sort of announcement in the near future.
Diablo IV
Blizzard's follow-up to 2012's Diablo III was first revealed in November, suggesting that a release date could still be far off. The studio has touted a "grittier" and more modern game that takes place well after the events of the previous release. A persistent online shared world is new to the series.
Everwild
The newest IP from Rare (which is also presumably still working on a Battletoads reboot) looks to be an open-world fantasy adventure. It's not expected anytime soon.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 [working title]
Little is known about the upcoming Switch-exclusive sequel to the most heralded game of the past decade, aside from its existence, which was first announced last summer when Nintendo revealed that they had an overload of ideas for DLC for the first game and decided to make a sequel instead.
Metroid Prime 4
Nintendo's other major upcoming release has been in the works since 2017, but a setback in the development process in early 2019 suggests that it's unlikely that the first numbered entry in the adventures of Samus Aran since 2007 will arrive anytime soon. The new game is now being developed by Retro Studios, who have worked on all of the previous Metroid Prime titles.
Overwatch 2 pictured above
The highly anticipated sequel to Blizzard's 2016 team shooter hit will add PvE-style multiplayer missions, including a new story mode, to the core 6v6 gameplay. Of course, you'll also find new heroes and new maps. Like the aforementioned Diablo IV, the game (which will come to every console, including Switch, at launch) was first announced in November of last year, so likely won't show up until 2021 at the earliest (though a 2020 release has been rumored). Intriguingly, the game's shared multiplayer environment will allow owners of the original game to compete against Overwatch 2 players in PvP mode(s).
Shin Megami Tensei V
Expected to be a Switch exclusive, the next chapter in
Atlus's JRPG series has been in development for several years with virtually no updates about its progress. But it will definitely get an English-language release when it does arrive.
