Out tbd for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. What if George R.R. Martin wrote the back story for a Dark Souls game? The result would probably look an awful lot like Elden Ring, since that's basically what it is. The fantasy action-RPG is a collaboration between the Game of Thrones author and FromSoftware's Hidetaka Miyazaki, who directed the Souls series as well as Bloodborne and last year's Sekiro. Unlike the latter game, Elden Ring leans more heavily into the RPG part of the action-RPG genre and features a large open-world that is explorable on horseback. There's no guarantee that the game will arrive in 2020, but the fact that it just became available to pre-order is an encouraging sign.
