20 Movie Sequels That Were Better Than the Originals
When it comes to movies, there is often a general feeling that sequels are never quite as good as the original. After all, follow-up films can often be pumped-out projects trying to recapture the magic of something great, and they often fall short as a result.
But not always. Sometimes, like in the case of the new Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel is even better received than the first film.
Read on to learn more about 20 movies that critics thought were indeed better than the initial project, ranked by the Metascore point differential between the first and second film (from smallest to largest jump in score).

▣ Dr. No (1962)
Just one short year after the release of 007 flick Dr. No, star Sean Connery returned for this 1964 offering. Director Terence Young also returns to helm the story of how James Bond became entangled with an assassination ploy, a young Russian woman, and a recovery mission involving S.P.E.C.T.R.E. Critics deemed it a sexy romp that was Bond at his finest, and for many it solidified Connery as the best Bond of the ever-growing bunch.
“From Russia with Love has two of the sexiest images I’ve ever seen: the opening credits with the names projected on belly dancers’ writhing, whirling bodies, and the scene where a bare-chested, towel-clad Bond enters his bedroom and finds Tatiana Romanova in his bed. Images like that aren’t cute. They’re primordial." —Matt Zoller Seitz, IndieWire
