Read on to learn more about 20 movies that critics thought were indeed better than the initial project, ranked by the Metascore point differential between the first and second film (from smallest to largest jump in score).
Original film:
▣ Mad Max (1979)
In 1980 Mel Gibson and director George Miller teamed for Mad Max, the story of an Australian police officer on a quest to avenge his wife and son. Two years later, they reteamed for this high-octane sequel, a post-apocalyptic take in which Max (Gibson) is now a drifter who agrees to help a community fight off a band of marauders. More action and more anarchy instantly captured many critics and viewers alike.
“For the eternal adolescents of the '80s, Warrior is even more primal fun than its predecessor. Miller has perfected the popup Spielberg style and laced it with speed.” —Charles Michener, Newsweek
