Walter Doniger
Biography: Walter Doniger inaugurated his Hollywood career as a screenwriter at Universal. After World War II service, Doniger returned to writing, then began directing and producing, specializing in prison pictures: Duffy of San Quentin (1954), The Steel Jungle (1956) and House of Women (1962). The oddest of his non-prison flicks was Safe at Home (1962), starring baseball greats Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris. Walter Doniger went on to produce and direct a brace of TV movies, Mad Bull (1977), Kentucky Woman (1983), then went back to theatrical features, where he remained until the early 1990s.
