Randa Haines
Biography: American actress/filmmaker Randa Haines began her distinguished directorial career in the mid-'80s with Children of a Lesser God starring William Hurt and Marlee Matlin. Before becoming a filmmaker, she worked as a theatrical actress and then graduated from the AFI Directing Workshop for Women. While in school she made the film August/September which got her hired as a television writer on the show Family during the 1970s. She then went on to direct a few episodes of other shows including Hill Street Blues and directed a few films for PBS before making her feature-film directorial debut in 1986. Following the achievement of Children of a Lesser God she had further success with another William Hurt vehicle The Doctor (1991).
