Phyllis Thaxter

Biography: The daughter of a Shakespearean actress, Phyllis Thaxter trained at the Montreal Repertory Theater and debuted on Broadway at age 17. She debuted onscreen in 1944 and sustained a steady screen career through the early '50s, after which her appearances were more sporadic. She tended to be cast as a sincere, unglamorous type and/or a faithful wife. In 1952 she was stricken by an attack of infantile paralysis. In later years she occasionally appeared in matronly roles on TV. She is the mother of actress Skye Aubrey.
