Biography: Matt attended Belle Plaine High School. He wrestled throughout high school and university. He became one of the best high school wrestlers in the state history. After Matt's wrestling career had ended, he began having serious drinking and eating problems. Weighing 339 pounds, he applied to be a contestant on The Biggest Loser. Matt went on the show when he was 28 years old and became The Biggest Loser, losing 157 pounds. For winning the show, Matt won $250,000.

On September 19, 2006, Matt and Suzy Preston wed. They got married in Jamaica, along the beach. The couple met while they were both contestants on Season 2 of the reality TV show, The Biggest Loser. Matt proposed to Suzy on The Today Show, on March 28, 2006. They have two children. Their first child, Rex Timothy Hoover. He was born on Saturday, June 23, 2007.
