For about eighteen months, from 1982 to 1983, Koo was reported to be having an affair with Prince Andrew, later Duke of York, but they parted after huge press interest in her roles in Emily and Cruel Passion, two adult movies made in 1977. She was badly treated by the media, but has remained silent about her relationship with Andrew.
In 1984, Koo was married to art dealer Tim Jeffries, of the Green Shield stamps family, but they divorced in 1985, and he went on to romance Elizabeth Hurley, Elle Macpherson, Claudia Schiffer and Kylie Minogue.
Koo's daughter Tatiana (with Warren Walker, a millionaire banker) was born in Boston, Mass., on March 12, 1996.
In 2000, a bitterly contested fight broke out between Koo and Warren Walker, Tatiana's father, when Koo reported Walker to the police for an assault at Notting Hill in London on Christmas Eve. It appeared that they had argued over the Christmas custody of Tatiana. Koo flew to New York with Tatiana and filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit there for Walker's alleged failure to care for his daughter, for breach of promise (after he allegedly cancelled their wedding two-and-a-half weeks before the planned date, when Koo was pregnant) and for emotional harm. Walker wanted the case heard in England and asked for Tatiana to be returned to London immediately, claiming Koo had abducted her and was using her as a weapon in pursuit of money. In March 2001, Koo was in Florida living near her mother and step-father, but she had her passport seized by the FBI after overstaying in the U.S. with her daughter in defiance of a court order. She was reported to be 'hysterical and lonely' before a Florida court appearance in 2001. The case resulted in Koo and Tatiana returning to Britain with an undisclosed financial settlement. Walker set up a trust fund for his daughter, pays alimony to Koo and rents a house for her in Knightsbridge.

Having decided to move on from acting, Koo has been a successful freelance photographer since the mid 1980s, and a Buddhist since 1994. She lives with her daughter in London, with visits to the U.S.
Koo became a Buddhist after meeting the Dalai Lama in 1994. She was on a photographic trip to shoot elephant polo in Nepal, and visited a Buddhist monastery while the Dalai Lama happened to be there. Since then, she has been a keen supporter of the Dalai Lama's fight for Tibetan independence.

Apart from her listed credits, Koo also had a part in Star Wars (1977), as a friend of Luke's called Camie. Her scenes were cut from the movie as released, but were later included in a LucasArts CD-Rom called Behind The Magic. Koo, as Camie, is also a card in Decipher's Star Wars Customizable Card Game.
