Fanny Brice
Biography: Born Fanny Borach, she appeared in Brooklyn stage shows as a teenager, later moving on to vaudeville; then in Manhattan-based burlesque shows she was first a chorus girl, then a singer and dancer. Between 1910-23 she starred in all but two of the "Ziegfield Follies," in the meantime building up a huge following for her singing and Brooklyn-dialect comedy. Brice starred in The Music Box Review (1924-25) and on Broadway, including an engagement in one show written especially for her, Fanny. She is best known as "Baby Snooks" on radio. Brice made few film appearances after her screen debut in My Man (1928). Her life was the subject of four films: Broadway Thro' a Keyhole (1933), Rose of Washington Square (1938), Funny Girl (1968), and Funny Lady (1975), the latter two starring Barbra Streisand.
