Carlos Lacamara

Biography: Sans the Spanish accent he's asked often to affect onscreen, Carlos Lacamara plays a non-stereotypical Hispanic-American dad in The Brothers Garcia. It's a relateable role for the real life father of two young sons - and husband of Providence story editor Carol Barbee -- who figures he can even take a few cues from clear-sighted, down-to-earth Ray Garcia.
His own childhood was a little less rooted. As a two-year-old, Cuban-born Lacamara arrived in Washington D.C. with his parents - a commercial artist and an opera singer -and spent his early childhood there. A couple of subsequent changes of scenery included a year in Puerto Rico and a year in Santa Barbara, before the family settled in Los Angeles, where sixth grader Lacamara caught the acting bug and began writing his own historic plays. Drama s enhanced his social life in high school, but he pursued them in earnest at UCLA.
Upon graduating, he founded the City Stage theatre company, whose members sometimes performed

Drama s enhanced his social life in high school, but he pursued them in earnest at UCLA.

Upon graduating, he founded the City Stage theatre company, whose members sometimes performed with homeless people, and he recently penned a play, Crashing Heaven, for the sti1l-thriving group.

As a fledgling actor, he moonlighted for a few years as a clerk at the Department of Medicine at UCLA, until TV guest roles began rolling in. Notably, there were early stints on such series as Hill St. Blues, St. Elsewhere and Family Ties and dozens more through the years on the likes of Friends, Murphy Brown, China Beach, Dharma and Greg, Caroline in the City , Star Trek: Deep Space 9, Party of Five, and Melrose Place - to name a few. He counts a regular role as a wry orderly in the series Nurses (1991-94) - alongside his current co-star Ada Maris - among his favorites.
Lacamara, who has a featured role in the film The Mexican with Brad Pitt, enjoys spending his time off with his family, as well as painting, sculpting and gardening.
