Damn, this is not what I expected going into this album. The opening track "I thought about killing you" is a real good introduction to the themes and vibe of this album. That takes a bit the credit away off of the song, but it's still great. "Ghost Town and All MIne" are just real radio songs, I dunno what he did on "All mine" but it just works, the fast rap/singing with the bubbly beat. In my opinion the track "yikes" takes a turn for the worse, that's the only track I don't really like that much even though it's on the short side. I don't like the beat and the rapping on this. "Wouldn't leave" has a great chorus by PARTYNEXTDOOR and the lyrics and rap by Kanye are also fantastic, same can be said for the track "No mistakes", I LOVE the Slick Rick sample, I dunno why but it gives it a real nostalgic feeling.

Overall this is just a great Kanye project and in my opinion it's underrated and overhated by critics. But I'm glad people enjoy the album for what it is even though it doesn't have that many bangers, it's a really viby and chill album.

It’s all right. Really short, which is good. Most of the tracks on here are fine, like, pretty standard songs. But then you have ‘Ghost Town’ which is no doubt one of Kanye’s all time best.

Ye was enjoyable but is really carried by the final two tracks. Tracks 1-5 are just kinda subpar. But the reason this is a positive review is that Ghost Town and more specifically Violent Crimes and top tier tracks. I remember listening to these last couple tracks on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and was absolutely in awe. Just solid but wish the first 5 tracks could live up to the last two.

Ye is a good album, for me is a short yet concise album, which sometimes plays in favor or against Ye, but the biggest problem is the lack of exploration on Ye's bipolar disorder, nevertheless I think and I hope this album will age really good, almost as good as Yeezus did. Basically, it falls short in comparison to his previous work, regardless it is pretty solid. Strong 7 or maybe even an 8.

An amazing Kanye record, definitely his most underrated.

This is Kanye's shortest yet most focused record to date, providing us with not only great songs but also the most introspective view into Kanye's personal struggles with his mental illness. To sum it up, the first half of the record exhibits Kanye's manic part of his psyche, where he has his ego, suicidality, and sexuality unapologetically on display. The remaining 4 songs show his journey to freedom from his demons through his wife and kids, ending with Kanye's transformation from an egomaniacal, misogynistic celebrity to a loving, caring father who worries a lot about his kids and loves and appreciates his wife. Very wholesome vibes.

All of this is accomplished in under 24 minutes, all while delivering some of Kanye's greatest tracks of all time and most personal verses, wrapped up in a neat bow with the immaculate production and creativity displayed throughout the project. The only small nitpick I have is that the instrumentation is a bit bare in the first half of All Mine, which makes it just slightly underwhelming and lacking in impact in that specific part. Nonetheless, this is undoubtedly one of Kanye's best albums to date, and deserves much more attention and love from fans and audiences in general.

Ye is a very short but beautiful piece of work. Each track has its own brilliant qualities and the project as whole is unbelievably entertaining thematically, the only track I have a problem with is parts on No Mistakes which seems to be the most out of place which is what most people seek to be its biggest flaw. However, I just can't seem to understand how people can't enjoy this project.

And this is almost a guarantee in a Kanye project, the album sounds great. Sonically it's very pleasant to listen to and the beats and production are so so good. I feel very strongly that Violent Crimes is the best closer out of any Kanye project we've seen yet. 070 shakes voice on this track is so so pretty. Kanye definitely still has his ear for music because that track is one of his best. Ye still remains as one of the more intimate looks on Kanyes mind and his very personal thoughts. "Yikes", and "All Mine" truly capture the thought process of Kanyes dark side of his mind. Ye is one of Kanyes most important projects he's ever put out, a lot of the lyrics in this album are easily interpretive about his family life and his darkest thoughts. I absolutely love this album, maybe because it's good, maybe because I just wasn't expecting anything from the album. I think it was both. I go back to the album regularly and still love the album
HIs first 3 albums and MBDTF are still his best 4 albums, but this is as close as I think I will get to being as good as those 4. It's not as good as those 4, but is definitely close.
Ye isn't his best album, but is on the higher end of his albums. It has its flaws, but has more pros. It's the only reason that I don't think he'd never be able to be as good as he was in the 2000s (and 2010). Kanye really opens up on this album with songs like Violent Crimes talking about his daughters, worrying about the over-sexualization of their bodies and that it may be karma for how he used to treat women earlier in life (even though it's ghostwritten). I can listen to this album on repeat listening to it roughly twice a normal day for me and none of the songs get old. The lyricism and featured singers vocals are great (070 Shake and Ty Dolla $ ). I enjoyed it also it doesn't have at "hit" and I personally I like that as to me the album is just one great piece of work, no song is vastly more popular than the others, making it much more fluid and comprehensive. Eight studio albums deep into an already unmatched career, Kanye West still prevails as one of the most ambitious figures in hip-hop in this compact seven-track project. The opening track "I Thought About Killing You" proves to be one of his most vulnerable and exposed songs to date, whereas bops like "Yikes" and "All Me" drive the meat of the project.

Very melodic album which shows Kanye in a new light. He seems more vulnerable but at the same time stronger than only one year ago. Thus 'YE' is a return to a more careful sound that is not afraid to tell you how life can go both up and down all in the matter of a minute. Brilliant construction and definately an underated classic.

A journey inside the body of Kanye's mind, we see a wholesome, frightened individual who, like us, is riddled with problems. Layered by beautiful production pieces, especially from the likes of the track Ghost Town, this is simply another wonderful addition to Kanye's discography.

an album that went under a lot of peoples radar. Don't let the short track list and length fool you, this is a full album. This is kanye at his most honest, unguarded and self conscious. If you like using kanye as a puppet then you can stay away from this but if you want to hear kanye as a person expressing his love for his family and concern for his mental health then you are at the right place.

Kicking off with "I Thought About Killing You", where Ye discusses his thoughts of taking his own life, his bipolar. The production on this track, and all the others as well, is unique and makes the album much more interesting, greatly adding to the tone each song gives off. He speaks the first half of the track, sort of thinking out loud, towards the end of which he says he should "Say something good so it doesn't come off bad" and that if he was trying to "relate it to more people i would say I'm struggling with loving myself, but thats not the case". This is followed by Yikes, where Kanye addresses his God complex as well as the thoughts in his head. He talks about the controversy he's created leading up toe release. For classic Ye fans, this is probably the only song that will be enjoyable, which is a big thing with this album, the tracks are more lyrical and emotionally driven than they are driven to be these Game Changing Kanye BANGERZ that he has been know to drop throughout his career. All Mine is a simple beat, great production, for the most part lyrics that don't fit the theme of the album, all around decent track. On Wouldn't Leave Ye starts to talk more about controversies and what this negative attention has done to him and his family. He's kind of saying on the chorus he knew the people that saw these and would get angry at him for saying these things would not go away, would still listen to him and the record. On No Mistakes he seems to have this happier, more carefree attitude that he hasn't had the rest of the record. He seems more content and accepting of what gets fired at him. Following that is Ghost Town which is easily going to be one of the best singles of the year. He talks about pretty much everything here, from the controversies to to his bipolar, and 070 Shake's verse at the end about "nothing hurting anymore" closes out the track very very nicely. Closing out the record we have Violent Crimes where Kanye talks about being savage and ruthless until a child come along. Talking about people being crazy until their daughter comes into world and becoming protective of their kid, telling her not to "grow up in a hurry". The album closes out with a voicemail from Nicki Minaj, spitting a couple lines from earlier in Kanye's verse, asking him to make sure the fans hear it.

Overall the album is an emotional journey, the thing as a whole after a couple listens can even be a little tear jerking. The production, as i said previously is really really good, original, not like much I've heard this year at least. Kanye's voice, the way he portrays his emotions, he sounds beat down, broken, listening closely you can feel the raw emotions he has throughout. Even his features compliment the tones on each track, Cudi and shake on Ghost Town especially, as well as everyone on Violent Crimes. I personally believe that eventually people will begin to warm up to this record and realize this is one of Ye's best, if not the best thing he's put out to date. This easily going to be in my Top 10 of the year and overall a very strong 9/10.

Notice how user scores aren't shown on the sites opening page, as if these critics of 'quality and stature' have opinions that rise above us all. I've noticed it enough, especially now with every awards show being a PR stunt, for it to bear mention, as Kanyes newest works, esp the new Nas, after listening, have suffered in the critic department because of media bias- this is wrong. Coming right off the biggest controversy and public image nightmare of his career its no surprise reviewers don't give this a chance. Only time will tell how good this is. Kanye gives us 7 beautiful tracks with near zero flaws about mental illness and family. It's a spiritual awakening of sorts and an extremely important album for kanye himself. Feels like t's made for himself and real fans more than for the publics acceptance like he did for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Easily the most personal record he's done, it can be an emotional listen for kanye fans.

The first 3 tracks are manic and all over the place. Adopting Yeezus and Pablo style personas and sound on mental health, loneliness, ego, lust, and depression. "I Thought About Killing You" is striking right off the bat talking about his ego and possible bi polar reference then has a few words for his haters and struggling friendships. "Yikes" is a full on manic episode about mental health, and referencing his "breakthrough." "All Mine" is the catchiest song sounding like it could've been on Life Of Pablo with Kanye throwing comical bars on social commentary and sex. "Wouldn't Leave" separates the album with an apology dedicated to Kim. It seems so personal to the point it felt no one else but her was supposed to hear it. The last 3 tracks change tone completely, they feel nostalgic and soulful; songs about family and redemption. No Mistakes is classic kanye straight outta 2007. Ghost Town is the most beautiful track on the album, with an innovative sound mixing 60s pop and pete rock. Violent Crimes ends it with a track dedicated to his daughter, personal favorite.

My only complaint is i wish it was 11 or 12 songs! I believe the reception would've changed so much if that were the case. The other Wyoming projects produced from Kanye have a very big production that the albums feel full. This is the only one that is raw and stripped down so i do think that effects the 7 tracks feeling incomplete in a way. Yeezy season and Good Fridays are back!

I'd understand skits and interludes in an album like TLOP, but this was a too short album for time to be wasted. In my opinion, this is one of Kanye's lesser greater albums, but in saying that it is still an amazing album compared to other rap albums. I just think Kanye put too much focus in Daytona to worry about his own album, but that is what all great producer's do like Dr. Dre, who instead of advancing his career made music for the likes of 50 cent and Eminem. Therefore, this album for me would be a 78 which would round up to an 8 out of 10. With only seven tracks and a runtime of 24 minutes, "ye" doesn't feel as all over the places as "The Life of Pablo" did, but maybe that's just because its minimal length doesn't allow it to.
It does, however, feel as unfinished as TLOP at some points. This also shouldn't come as a surprise, and maybe it's part of a so called concept, since the album reportedly was made in just a month.

It does, however, feel as unfinished as TLOP at some points. This also shouldn't come as a surprise, and maybe it's part of a so called concept, since the album reportedly was made in just a month.
There are plenty of half-baked ideas and lazy lyrics on here, so one would wish that West for once wouldn't have done justice to his self-imposed deadline (a deadline he'd given himself before even starting on the album).
On the other hand, it's also fascinating to look at this project (can you call this an album?) as the result of a single month, a single, troubled point in time in Wests life and career. He addresses his mental health, his family and the impact his behaviour had on them in standout tracks such as the beautiful "Wouldn't leave".
Unfortunately, there are also plenty of cringeworthy Kanye West lyrics on here. His handling of the TMZ situation seems childish and doesn't add anything useful to the discussion, nor is it funny. It makes the listener feel glad that West doesn't dwell on the whole Trump situation that much. There's also a track about infidelity, which thematically seems a bit ouf of place, as do the bars about drugs on "Yikes".
His lyrics on the closer "Violent Crimes", which is beautifully produced, are heartfelt, but also old-fashioned in their "I-respect-women-now-that-I-have-a-daughter" sentiments. Implying that all men are monsters and his daughter needs protection doesn't help either. Still, it seems very genuine. The track features 070 Shake, a GOOD Music newcomer who also appears on "Ghost Town", another standout track, mostly due to her performance.
Other features include Kid Cudi, Ty Dolla Sign, John Legend, Jeremih, Charlie WIlson and PARTYNEXTDOOR, who delivers a fantastic vocal performance on "Wouldn't Leave".
The opening track is also very interesting: West displays murder fantasies, and it's not quite clear who they're aimed at (his wife? himself?). He delivers a lengthy monologue over a gourgeous, minimalistic piece of production, before he actually starts rapping and the beat switches.
Some might say that this unfocused nature of the lyrics, as well as the minimalistic and unfinished production actually play into the theme of the album. Kanye seems to embrace his fragile mental state, he proclaims his bipolar-disorder, which he was supposedly diagnosed with, as his "super power". Others might say that you can't pass off short and unfinished work as a "concept".
The truth is probably somewhere in the middle, as "ye" brings us all the highs and lows we've come to expect from Kanye West in recent years. It features some very beautiful and humane moments, and the production is mostly very good, but the whole thing seems flushed out to quick. The "short album" thing doesn't work as well as it did with Pusha T's razor-sharp "DAYTONA", and "ye", despite it's moments of past greatness, feels like it's just too little, too late.

Very good music. Ye is growing up a bit. Calls it like he sees it. Very catchy.

Surprisingly honest and beautiful album. Short, sweet and light. Unexpected delivery by Kanye West touching on themes and points that are unconventional in the genre. This and Daytona prove he has more things to say with his producing. Looking forward to what's to come.

Ghost Town is an opus. The fact that Kanye is smart enough to sign 070 Shake and put her on a track is proof that he hasn't lost his ear for perfect music. People can bag on him all they want dude sold a half a millions worth of sweatshirts in 30 minutes. Kanye isn't just a musical genius he is a fashion icon. He is the closest thing this world has to a modern day Da Vinci. King of MusicGhost Town is an opus. definitely worth a listen. Kanye continues his tradition of breaking down his prior works, reassembling them into something new.

I went from loving the album upon first listen, to thinking it was mediocre, to appreciating it again. It sounds like a more complete and higher quality TLOP to me, which is disappointing to a degree because what makes many of Kanye's albums so good to me is his how he is is constantly changing the sound. Regardless, it sounds amazing and has quality lyrical content most of the time. II went from loving the album upon first listen, to thinking it was mediocre, to appreciating it again. Regardless, it sounds amazing and has quality lyrical content most of the time. I love getting an insight into his mind and every track on this album provides us wit that. There is no bad song on here and Yikes, All Mine and Ghost Town are personal favourites. Perhaps the only fairly lackluster song would be Wouldn't Leave, but even then its still a great song. Overall I would say keep listening because your opinion on the album might change like mine did. I would give it an 8-8.5/10. Expand

ye is an average album with some good songs, some bad songs, and some songs that will clearly be spun millions of times. The problem is that "average" has never been good enough for Kanye West nor should it be.

For all his power as a motivating force it’s perhaps inevitable that Ye proves weakest of the first four. Left to his own devices West sounds bewildered, somewhere between awe and exhaustion. [Aug 2018, p.63]

Ye can feel uneven, sometimes boring, and more indulgent than usual, but it's a fascinating peek into West's psyche.
