Jul 14, 2026Reminding us of the offhand brilliance with which Future can conjure a sticky chorus or unforgettable line are the wistful R&B hook of “California Girls” and the reptilian glide of his flow on “One Two” and “Off the Hinge.” There are also rare moments when his numbness splits open into something wounded and truly strange. .... At the same time, the album’s looseness can just as readily leave promising material underdeveloped.

Jul 14, 2026For folks simply eager to hear Future do his thing, the first half of The Real Me offers some sparks.

Jul 14, 2026The Real Me’s lack of emotional intimacy, its lack of regret, just makes it seem like he hates these girls, especially since there’s hardly any specificity about anything other than their graphic sex. .... A few songs try to course-correct that sourness with vulnerability, like on “If I Could,” when he mutters, “I love my girl, it’s hard to tell her how I feel,” but that doesn’t happen enough.

Jul 14, 2026Despite its title, The Real Me shows no real signs of growth and maturity. Instead, what we get is an album that sounds like it could have been released any time in the last 10 years.
