A little like The Strokes of Is This It trying their hand at metronomic Can jams or mesmeric slowcore. And yet melody is key throughout. [Sep 2025, p.33]

Excellent and on par with Island of Noise as Modern Nature’s best.

Musically and lyrically, The Heat Warps is a fabulously compelling questioning album, and the questions it’s asking are not the ones you expect to hear from a pop album.

Even at their most spacious, these songs are taut and well-crafted pieces of music. Previous Modern Nature outings showed that the band can be expressive and daring; with The Heat Warps, they’ve proved that realism can be just as intriguing.

Not a thrill a minute, but a steady antidote to chaos. [Sep 2025, p.83]

As with previous albums, the musicianship is impeccable, but Cooper's vocals often fell too polite, the guitars bloodless. [Sep 2025, p.105]
