I'm probably one of the biggest RHCP fans as I own a lot of their stuff, have seen them live more than any other band...don't want to bore you with that. The thing is that I listened to the Getaway (the song) and I wasn't sure what to think. It was catchy for sure but overly simplistic and not what I expected from RHCP. The first half is dominated by calm and melodic songs while the second is more focused on their trademark fusion style.
I recommend it to everyone, as there's a lack of quality music nowadays. The last album I was bothered to buy was Dystopia by Megadeth (which is also worth checking out if you like metal).

I'm a big fan of Red Hot Chili Peppers and I just want to say that this is their best album since By The Way but it is quite equal to Stadium Arcadium. it represents an innovation of their music after an album called "I'm With You". Great! I would give 9.5 but I can give 10! I'm with You: 8.0; Stadium Arcadium: 9.0; By The Way: 9.75. The best album is Blood Sugar Sex Magic

The other thing that can't be discounted is the way the album "sounds". This Album is a huge improvement over i'm with you. "Dark necessities" is a stand out track with its slap bass and cant stop inspired bass line. Josh klinghoffer really shines on tracks like sick love and Detroit showing that he can hold his own. This Album does not disappoint hardcore fans of The Red Hot Chili Peppers but may be harder to enjoy for people unfamiliar with their sound.

When discussing the music of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, change-via-era is often a heavy part of the discussion. Was 1 Hot Minute an overlooked gem or a disaster with Dave Navarro replacing the eccentric, mercurial, but undoubtedly talented John Frusciante? And what of the Peppers after Frusciante left a second time? It's the kind of thing that is appropriate, but can be too much of a running tangent.

With their 2016 release "The Getaway" which is album number 2 featuring Josh Klinghoffer replacing Frusciante after his second departure, they've found their groove again. Their first with Klinghoffer, 2011's "I'm With You" showed that their new choice clearly could do the job well, and while not Frusciante, had a style all his own to bring to the Peppers' music. On The Getaway, they make the wise choice of changing producers, bringing in Danger Mouse to man the boards. Some long time fans mourn the loss of the raw, dirty, hyper-kinetic sound of the band in their pre-Blood Sugar Sex Magick days. Whether it is the production cojones of Danger Mouse or just the Peppers finding a new stride late career to credit to this change, the transformation is real, and it paints a fine way forward. The Getaway recaptures some of the raw fury of their early days, and blends that with a lived-in, easygoing sense of calm and peace. All 3 principal members are in their 50's, and it wouldn't make sense to be trying to re-hash the randy anthems of their younger days. The shift in mood suits them, but at the same time lets them flex their talents. Danger Mouse' production lets this shine through much better as well - from Flea's bass licks opening up lead single "Dark Necessities" and looping along to neatly tie up later track "Feasting on the flowers" - on this album, all 4 of the band members get to shine equally. Not to knock on Rubin, he is a worthy producer, but Danger Mouse seems to get where the band is in the current day and tailors the soundscape to match with much more precision. Kiedis' lyrics are as inscrutable as ever in places, but when the rich, luscious music layered around them sounds as good as it does on "The Getaway" - most listeners would be hard pressed to worry about that. Definitely recommended.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers' 11th studio album is by far one of their most experimentally beautiful piece of collective art that they've made. You can really hear the 'in-your-face' energy flowing through them with every track, with many unforgettable and catchy choruses and some unique, more prominant guitar work from Josh Klinghoffer. Overall, an excellent album!

It has a very chill, jazz-funk, mid-tempo pop vibe. Is any of it catchy like the Frusciante-era? Not at all. It's an album that actually challenges the listener. "The Getaway", "Dark Necessities", "Dreams of a Samurai", and "Encore" are all examples of the new RHCP sound while "This Ticonderoga", "We Turn Red", and "Go Robot" is reminiscent of the band that most have become familiar with. "Detroit" is different. More hard rock than bone-crushing funk.

I'm pretty pleased with the album. Kiedis' lyrics are frustrating, though. But his lyrics is more of rhythmic stream-of-consciousness than dedicated subject, so I'll give him the same pass as I've always have in the past 15 years I've listened to this band.
