    The opportunity to aurally join Dylan and The Band for dozens of 1974 shows and to track the tour’s performance evolution over every single surviving soundboard recording is a jaw-dropping treat that would have been unimaginable in earlier years.

    Suffice it to say, The 1974 Live Recordings constitutes a listening experience almost as frustrating as it is rewarding. As such, it is very much in line with virtually all of Dylan’s work over the last sixty-some years, thought-provoking in the extreme, if nothing else.

    The later discs reflect the relative comfort Dylan and the Band performed with, leading to a more polished joint effort. That said, there's plenty of rawness here, but the chaos on the early discs is missed. The 1974 Live Recordings will only appeal to Dylan completists and historians. The music is entirely (and wonderfully) remixed.
