With great sounds like R & B or trap, Ariana in these songs tells us the darkest moment of her life.

Full of bops but with a lot of quality, Grande almost reached the peak of her records (sweetener still holds that). Now Ariana isn't outside of her comfortable area like Sweetener but she still was capable to brought uniqueness and quality to her public.

The album opens with “imagine” which, in the closing seconds, displays Ariana’s amazing ability to control the whistle register, a very rare skill. Whether it’s an upbeat track like “NASA” or “bloodline,” or a slow jam like “needy” or “make up,” the singer is always making it very apparent that she’s having fun with her work and that she loves what she’s doing. The title track and lead single has become a modern classic for it’s music video filled with movie references. The second official single, 7 rings, is one huge flex. Grande isn’t afraid to remind us that she is indeed very, very rich. The third single, and final song, on the album is titled “break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored” and yet again shows us that Ariana isn’t afraid to have fun or steal your man. Overall, thank u, next made it overwhelmingly clear that Ariana Grande is a force to be reckoned with in the music industry and secured her status as a “main pop girl.” Expand

A fórmula do sucesso (?)

Within months, Grande faces a broken engagement and the death of Mac Miller. What she had managed to communicate and achieve with Sweetener, namely personal security and self-confidence, is shattered again. Grande recognizes the need to tell herself again: she does not hesitate to compose and work on a new album that is capable to expose how she feels.
Not only is Thank U, Next even more personal than Sweetener, it's also a step forward sonically. Maintaining a strong pop and R&B foundation, influences from hip hop and trap music are as strong as ever: Grande's versatility still doesn't disappoint, while her naturally pleasing vocal virtuosity continues to blow our minds.
Textually, Thank U, Next promises to be a high quality record, with an emotional participation at times moving. Grande is once again a singer-songwriter, in a decidedly evident way, helped by a group of very close collaborators and friends. The track Ghostin is an evident proof of this step forward, representing the most personal track by the singer in her entire discography.
The ability of Grande and her team in reconciling what is commercially attractive and what is qualitatively good is still felt, starting from the lead single of the same name. Thank U, Next, perhaps the most pop track within the project, is among Grande's most personal singles, despite being decidedly captivating also from a musical point of view. 7 Rings and Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored, the other two singles on the record, promise to be the most textually frivolous tracks, but for Grande and her collaborators this is legitimate: after two years of suffering, the singer wants to devote herself again to a type of music capable of making the listener entertain and dance, and make her forget the negativity that led her to see everything in black and white. And a little irony undoubtedly helps.
Thank U, Next has few flaws: despite the presence of the filler track Make Up, certainly among the most superficial ever written by Grande, all the songs are of excellent quality from every point of view. Ariana Grande's fifth album is the opposite of a disappointment: it leaves you speechless.

A definitive step-up from last August's "Sweetener", "thank u, next" is an enjoyable record, and it makes the best out of big productions and Ariana Grande's airy beautiful vocals. The record opens up with one of Ariana's best songs (probably ever), 'imagine' that features her singing over an R&B beat and then hitting whistle notes she hadn't done in a while. The album then moves on to great tracks, such as the previously teased 'needy' which sees Grande confessing her insecurities, and 'bloodline' which is a very fun cut, great for playing at parties, that almost sounds like a sequel to 'Side to Side', her collab with Nicki Minaj from "Dangerous Woman". Another great song is 'bad idea', which builds and breaks and ends... right until it is revived into a very well-placed instrumental outro that strikes all the right strings. The absolute highlight would be 'ghostin': Ariana gets really personal, and sings in a very tender manner, giving the listener a piece of her mind, and it's then, when she's most vulnerable and authentic, that she is at her best. The singles '7 rings' and 'thank u, next' wouldn't have been this consumed and this big if they weren't as great as you'd think, and the closer, 'break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored' is a song made while being in the same mindset: making a good radio-ready hit. However, "thank u, next" misses at some points, like on tracks like 'make up', 'fake smile'. 'in my head', which are lyrically weak and sonically redundant, and 'NASA', which would've been better had its chorus not been this repetitive.
All in all, "thank u, next" is a really solid collection of 12 very-well produced songs that manage to leave a good trace in the american singer's catalog.

While wrapped in a Trap influence that might be underwhelming, the album tracks are unique, whimsical and sincerely delivered, born from a truly musical passion by the vocalist.

Needy is a magical, minimalist ballad brought to life by Ari's affective consciousness. But the tracks don't lack some Pop bangs like with the unpretentious-love affirming Bloodline. The emotional maturity on the work brights between powerful attitudes and reflections about life and love.
It's not a flawless album, not the most deep content a music work can be, but the overcoming tone coming from a voice that came from typical popular songs couldn't not surprise and excite about an artist that is in a amazing ascension.

The production in this record is amazing (in almost every song). There was a mix between orchestral instruments and computerised sounds. I will have to say in some tracks, that mix was a bit confusing. She went for a full pop/RnB album, which really suits her, however a few songs sound very similar and mainstream. Tbh, I was expecting better lyrics from this album, in some songs it was too repetitive. Yet, this is her most personal project.

Not one of my favorite Ariana’s album, but it’s a complete work. There are some songs that feels remaining in this record, and would’ve be better out of it. One of the highlights of the album is the track “ghostin” a very personal and emotional song. Its singles were pretty well chosen.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

O problema deste álbum é a canção '7 rings'.

After the moderate success of her "sweetener" deep and pop singles, the singer aims at higher targets by diving into trap and hip-hop influences (the rhythms of the moment, replacing the chart-climbers pop hymns), even though she appears to have given up of her characteristical musicality and vocals, wagering on almost monochromatic beats throughout the album. On the other side, though, Ariana is able to sound personal and confident in the middle of so many insipid tracks. Maybe the short period of time between the release of "sweetener" and "thank u, next" may classify the two works as complementary to each other, like a double record. If so, in "sweetener" Grande sowed the ground unpretentiously, to rip her gold nuggets ("7 rings", "NASA", "fake smile" and "bloodline") in "thank u, next". The album is undoubtedly a blast - analyzing its first viral singles, and of course it's great that women are topping the charts around the world, but it's kinda sad that Ariana had left the purpose of her songs behind and wagered on a warm, forgettable and filling-stuffed album to be able to be so popular.
