    Turner walks a fine line of providing hushed mood music for a film, and delving into someplace deeper; his tunes aren't mere background music, yet there's a casualness to his Submarine songs that keeps them from truly resonating.

    Alex Turner is just a good musician, simple as that. He was good with the Shadow Puppets and he's good with this. Nice catchy songs that makeAlex Turner is just a good musician, simple as that.     Alex Turner doesn't use Submarine as an opportunity to indulge himself or experiment but instead sticks to what he does best - write nice andAlex Turner doesn't use Submarine as an opportunity to indulge himself or experiment but instead sticks to what he does best - write nice and catchy pop songs that get into your head. It inevitably has the mark of Arctic Monkeys all over it but more mellow, not necessarily stripped down. If you compare the version of Piledriver Waltz on here compared to that on "Suck and See" you will see what I mean. It's a very decent set of songs and Arctic Monkey fans will enjoy it but considering its brevity and the fact that its strongest track appears on a Monkeys record, Submarine can hardly be called essential.… Full Review »
