There are very few weak links, and even songs i disliked at first have grown on me. It is better than by the way , IMO. But well , buy it and at least give it a chance , and please dont expect a retread on their funk past, even though there are funky numbers , its mainly pop - rock and rock ballads in californication/ by the way style. Everyone here is insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Lukewarm Chili Peppers are sooo much worse than Elvis, the Beatles, the Eagles, and all those other legends. Anyone who says different is obviuosly smoking Sharpies. Chili Peppers suck, and I'm ashamed that they're rock.

Hey now. What's up. Now I've been a Chili Peppers fan since this March only. A friend kept on telling me that The Chili Peppers are way better than Green Day (Since my music was with them). So I kept on responding to him that RHCP sucks. So I just bought the album By The Way, just sample them, and oh my goodness, the music they produce was truly one of a kind. After ditching Hey now. After ditching Green Day as my favourite number one artist, I started to listen to Californication. That was truly amazing as well. Then I listened to Blood Sugar Sex Magik, and they were a bit different contrasting to By The Way and Californication. It took me a while before I noticed that it was their best work ever. The bass that Flea plays in that album was top notch. Everyone was amazing in that album. BUT... I heard about the album Stadium Arcadium. I said to myself, "What a horrible album name...". I heard Dani California, and it was alright, until it grew on me. May 9th. The day Stadium Arcadium came out. I listened to it, and it was horrible. Horrible, horrible, horrible. Oh my god, I can't believe how bad they were. My friend (as mentioned above) told me that it was great. He told me to listen to the second disc if I didn't like the first. To my surprise, I did not like both discs at all. It took me a very very long time to actually listen to it. I listened to the song "Snow (Hey Oh)" after numerous playings of Dani California. Ant it was starting to grow on me as well. Then I started to listen to songs such as Readymade, and Charlie. Then it expanded from there. It totally blew up on my head. The album is awesome. To this date, I start off listening to Desecration Smile first. That is the most played song in the album for me. I thought that the songs Warlocks, C'mon Girl, Storm In a Teacup was bad. Until I listened to So Much I. I loved it so much, that I practically love every song in the album. This is a great album for all those new RHCP fans. Try picking up Blood Sugar Sex Magik as well, but the transition can be bumpy. Stadium Arcadium is very soulful, straight from their heart. You can tell in the song Hard To Concentrate. Kiedis talk about one day getting married with someone have having children. The first disc is mostly filled with Californication style groove's, while the second is filled with Blood Sugar Sex Magik, and By The Way. Bottom Line: I know that many many people have said that this album is bad, because they have listened to the first six songs. Well, that happened to me too. But just try to listen to it, as my friend said. It might be hard, but in the end, it is the best album the Chili Peppers have had to date. Expand

At first listen, some of the songs I wasn't feeling all that well. For example: Hump de Bump, it has more funk style to it and I guess that turned me off, but then I listened to it more and tended to like it a little bit better. I think anthony's voice is also more confident than in other albums, and the lyrics and sound gets more refine and better and better with each album. I think this album will be one of their best of all time with songs like Turn It Again, and Death to a Martian. Also I liked Desecration Smile, the songs are a bit more slow on the majority of tracks, i think, but that's okay, it has that real wel classic rock feel. The negative reviews I read are okay...the point is, every album will get some negatives, not everyone can like it, the good thing is, there are more good than bad. This album will be a success. This album is not Californication. It's not Blood Sugar Sex Magik. It's not Mother's Milk. Thankfully, it's also not By The Way. What it is, like I said, is the strongest parts of each of those. It's melodic, it rocks and a majority of the songs have at least something about them that stands out and will have you hooked. That's the one problem for me, though: a lot of the songs have a strong chorus melody, or something, but you have to sit through a less than stellar intro or verse to get to it. That's only on a few songs though. The only true filler, to me, would be "Stadium Arcadium", "Warlocks", "Hump De Bump" and maybe 2 or 3 others. However, there are definitely more strong tracks than there are filler. The chorus to "Charlie" is incredible, and "Hard to Concentrate" and "Desecration Smile" are strong, melodic and beautiful. If this were stolen or lost, I would buy it again because its worth it. It may not be their greatest, but when you're as good as the Chili Peppers, failing to meet expectations doesn't necessarily make a bad album. This is certainly a strong album, and it will grow on you. Expand

RHCP are the best band eva there new album is so cool I cant stop listening to Stadium Arcadium,Their best track is gotta be torture me but there are no shit tracks on the album anyway. Many people i have spoken to about this double album are critical of it because it has moved so far away from their work in albums such as The Uplift Mofo Party Plan or Blood Sugar Sex Magik. These albums are great but that does not mean that Stadium Arcadium is less so because it is so different to the style of the earlier albums. The band has developed much since then, most noticably in Anthony's singing style, which was much more rap-based. Do not discount this album because it is different to their others, judge it for its own merits, of which it has many. The majority of the tracks are strong, so much so that i listened to the whole double album first time around in one sitting with no skippings. Undoubtedly there are negatives which come (in my mind) during some of the slower songs which can drag on. But there are many highlights, such as my personal favourites "tORTURE ME""She's only 18" and "Slow Cheetah". Overall this is a very good album from one of the biggest and best bands on the planet and we should hope that they continue making them. Expand

I was unsure at first, but after a couple listens I liked I how I was just getting lost in the music. A few too many songs to get your head around though. It almost seems that RHCP is evolving with my music tastes, so I like it alot.

It's simple, no one...no one, has ever made this much music this well... No One... The first time around I would have said it was an 8... But as soon as I put the first disc back in I knew I was so, so wrong. This album is a 10, for anyone who dosnt agree, all you have to do is press play again. It's a lot to take in at once, but it's gold.

Could be the worst album that has ever been recorded. I hope this band never steps foot in another studio ever again. Talk about a world wide suicide. If they do then maybe Eddie Vedder was right.

i thought it was okay. a little bit of a downer tho. it got so much hype and was supposed to be huge but i wasnt that impressed. there was a few good songs but making it two discs was a mistake. once you get to the second disc so many songs start starting the same you just skip them thinking you heard them already and it was to soft. not nearly enough funk. not even close to i thought it was okay. a little bit of a downer tho. it got so much hype and was supposed to be huge but i wasnt that impressed. there was a few good songs but making it two discs was a mistake. once you get to the second disc so many songs start starting the same you just skip them thinking you heard them already and it was to soft. not nearly enough funk. not even close to Californication or blood sugar sex magic. a little disappointed but ill listen to the good songs. all 5 of them Expand

Jupiter alone is worthy of this rating. It's not perfect because of all the filler, but you can't criticize an album with this many instant classics

As gauche music critics for all the piece-of-crap rags that somehow get listed on metacritic (and that are otherwise irrelevant) it is your sworn duty to slag beautifully tuneful killer funk from rock gods who long ago singlehandedly made alternative into mainstream, but the rest of us just love good music - all 28 songs worth of it here.

There's way too much material here. The band is tighter than ever, so the excess is expertly played filler, but filler nonetheless. There are no songs here that are going to make anyone forget the best of Mother's Milk or Blood Sugar Sex Magik. But if you enjoyed Californication and By The Way, then this is still a good bet.

yea it's not the greatest album of all time like some are saying much too hastily. but... it is one of the best to come out in quite some time. don't listen to the bad reviews--for some reason these people cannot understand greatness. even if it's not your style, at least admit they're the most talented band playing today....that much is very very obvious.

I just listened to Jupiter: it's nothing short of awesome. I don't know what the hell the guy up there was thinking, but I thought the lyrics, though abstract, were still one of the shining elements of the release. Frusciante is crazy good now, Kiedis sounds way less drug-addled and Flea's bass work is still the best I've heard anywhere. RHCP is awesome. Again.

Over the past 15 years RHCP fans have more or less divided into Blood Sugar Sex Magic type fans and Californication type fans. This album fully delivers on both fronts and attempts to bridge the two in a funky yet melodic masterpiece. I especially enjoy the creativity in the bridges of most of the songs, great guitar work.

This goes doubly-so for those jackasses at pitchfork, who cite, among other things, Frusciante's liberal use of effects pedals as a reason for not liking this album. Personally, I agree with those who champion Frusciante's guitar work as the highlight of the album. The only issues I have are with the vocals and lyrics which--though they don't necessarily jive with my ascetic lifestyle, and admittedly feel somewhat contrived--fit the music well and round off the album nicely. This is a pop album and is meant to appeal to a popular audience. We must admit that it succeeds! It lifts your spirits from the mundanity of the everyday. Expand

  2. Somewhere along the line the Chilis got sophisticated on our asses.
  3. Frusciante's guitar work... almost single-handedly saves the project, but not quite.
