    This album is a jewel, one of the few jewels that you can find in this last decade of music, each song has a life of its own and makes you fall in love with the story that sadly some people (including myself) have gone through but at the end of the road we can always find our own smile and laugh with a couple of champagne glasses so what cry about it later tonight I'm havin fun.

    The album is Perry's most cohesive work to date. It follows her journey to find her Smile and the narrative is strongly conveyed through the 4 mini-chapters of the album. The production on the album is flawless and the lyrics are some of Perry's best.

    Without fleeting moments of bad taste, Perry does indeed sound mature, but she's also not quite as fun. That's a conscious choice, though. Smile is intended to evoke memories of her frivolous younger days while pointing toward a sustainable pop future.

    Like Joanne before Chromatica, Smile plays like a necessary centering exercise, indulging her insecurities and less surefire instincts. If Witness was overdetermined, Smile is an earnest exhale, for better or for worse. It delivers an image of her journey towards inner peace that is honest (if corny) and catchy (if not exactly inventive).
