The album opens with an amazing track “Never Really Over”, which is a very inspiring song with amazing melodies and the production is perfect and different from her old songs and then carries on to “cry about it later” and “teary eyes” which are the best songs on the album and simply best production I’ve ever heard from Katy! The album is amazingly produced and written. Katy you’ve done an amazing job on this album!! Totally deserved a 10!… Expand

    A great album with diverse type of songs. Even though the album is diverse it still has the cohesiveness on each track. Definitely an album you don't want to miss out.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Literally everything I needed in these rough times, I mean, I saw sh*tfork’s review where they (or him most likely) ask WHY NOW? I mean, WHY NOT NOW? That’s the question I ask to them, like, every single human being on earth had plans for this year and they got cancelled/postponed, literally I think every single human on earth has felt like sh*t during these times and honestly (in my case) music is something that has been making me hold on, it’s given me something to hold on, literally all of the records released this year so far have been very important to me til this day and I think they always will exactly because I heard them for the first time in THESE TIMES, they gave me hope, happiness, joy, sadness, coziness, they lifted me up a HUNDRED TIMES when I was losing almost everything in me to keep fighting, they gave me a reason to SMILE. They made me dance, and though it was in my bedroom, they did. All f*cking records have done that to me, Future Nostalgia by Dua Lipa, Chromatica by Lady Gaga, folklore by Taylor Swift and now SMILE by Katy Perry. Not to mention the non-album (yet) songs that Miley, Cardi, Nicki, Doja, Selena, Ariana and all of them have given to us. Now, focusing on Smile, you have my word that this record will make you; (1) Smile (like it’s title); (2) Dance and (3) Feel better that you were feeling 1 minute before. Every single song gives you a different feeling, new motivation, fun, emotions, it’s honestly amazing. You will NOT be disappointed, I assure you that. Katy Perry poured her soul in this record and I’m really, really grateful for that. Thank you for making me SMILE again, Katy, lots of love for you (not even the 0.1% of what you deserve).… Expand

    Katy Perry's fifth album left us nothing but a Smile on our faces. I think this is her best album since she told us that it is a combination of Teenage Dream and Prism. Amidst the pandemic that we are facing, Katy delivered us a bundle of joy. This is one of the best thing that happened this year.

    Without fleeting moments of bad taste, Perry does indeed sound mature, but she's also not quite as fun. That's a conscious choice, though. Smile is intended to evoke memories of her frivolous younger days while pointing toward a sustainable pop future.

    Like Joanne before Chromatica, Smile plays like a necessary centering exercise, indulging her insecurities and less surefire instincts. If Witness was overdetermined, Smile is an earnest exhale, for better or for worse. It delivers an image of her journey towards inner peace that is honest (if corny) and catchy (if not exactly inventive).
