I was really excited for the album based on the singles but once I heard the full album I was very disappointed in it. I feel like the songs feel too slow and depressing in my opinion. Other than the singles I only liked building a swing and you are my house. I don't think this a bad album not a great one greT one either. I have been listening to this album pretty much nonstop since its release. Although I understand some of the critical concerns about the album’s pacing and overall differences from Ballentine’s other works, I find this album to be perfect for me. It’s soft and mysterious, it guides you through a journey sonically and lyrically. It’s an album that I can put on in the background as i sit and write or take a nap, or, maybe on a long walk alone. Conversely, I can sit with it and ponder its complexities and the beautiful writing that’s present throughout all the tracks. I love how much texture it holds, but I also think that’s partially where it loses some of her original fans. I think it’s drastically different from the generally structured and clear songwriting/production of her first two EPs, but I love how Ballentine wasn’t afraid to push past that into something new. I personally love the openness and textural diversity within this project. Honestly, it’s my favorite album of all time, and maybe that will change, but I’m just gonna enjoy it while it lasts. Expand

Ballentine’s strengths are most apparent in the feel of this album, which is consistently rich and gauzy. Even the clearest acoustic guitar licks are somehow buried beneath a persistent field of sustain and mild distortion.

As fleeting an experience as this is, it’s still emotionally moving and deeply affecting. Within its ambition, and for those who are open to its fainting beauty, it contains entire worlds.

Quiet the Room is a worthy addition comparable to Julianna Barwick's The Magic Place and The Innocence Mission's We Walked in Song, chamber folk reveries so entrenched in their own little worlds you can practically live inside them.
