Aug 26, 2024Power more than lives up to the high standards Sarah Tudzin established on Let Me Do One More, and if you're in the mood for smart, insightful indie pop that's not afraid to rock, Illuminati Hotties is a band you need to hear.
-
Aug 23, 2024Throughout, there’s a pleasing directness to Tudzin’s songwriting, with one succinct banger following another. A joy.

Aug 23, 2024Power has a deep bench of collaborators, peers like Sadie Dupuis of Speedy Ortiz, Melina Duterte (a.k.a. Jay Sum), and ubiquitous alt-pop producer John Congleton. It adds a heartening sense of community to a career-best LP takes the Illuminati Hotties project to a whole new level. Pretty soon, Tudzin might be taking home Grammys for her own records.
-
Aug 23, 2024Power introduces us to a new side of Illuminati Hotties that takes the pressure of the guitars and drums and places the weight of the album on its words, creating an enticing juxtaposition that may take a few listens to understand fully. Still, once it clicks, you’ll appreciate that Tudzin stumbled upon hit records while expressing intense emotions.
-
Aug 23, 2024POWER occasionally stalls into monotony, remaining comfortably static when it should be accumulating emotional momentum for maximum impact. Even the penultimate title track ironically feels lethargic. However, what is here that works still warrants praise, particularly the moments where Tudzin opens up more about her own life and defines the things that bring her joy.
-
Aug 27, 2024Nursing wounds while simultaneously trying to put her problems to scale, Tudzin writes unpretentious songs that aim straight for the heart (“I Would Like, Still Love You,” “You Are Not Who You Were”) like the enduring hits of So Jealous.
-
Aug 26, 2024Tudzin is clearly a formidable talent, and there are plenty of sweet spots on POWER. But there is a darker, more mysterious record within her reach. Maybe then we’ll really get to know her.
