The album is extremely cohesive, the sound of Grande's new album is in the same time that calm/nasty R&B and that heavenly ballad that we all love, Ariana is proving that she can change whenever she wants and that she is versatile and can walk through R&B, Pop, Trap, Jazz, and any genre successfully. By the way, this album is a mix of her first "Yours Truly" and her fourth "Sweetener" Expand

Ariana amadureceu tanto com esses últimos álbuns, ver o desenvolvimento dela de sweetener, para thank you, next e positions é marcante. Não é apenas uma discografia, é a história da Ariana sendo escrita com os vocais perfeitos.

Every song is a lyrical confession filled with honesty, love, and truths. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's easily her best project so far. She has always been an r&b pop girl and through this album she has successfully explored a new genre to become the best among her peers working today. The gems of the album for me were off the table, nasty, obvious and POV. Nonetheless all the songs are really good. So proud of her. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ms Grande really popped off with this one! The lyrics show how much has changed since her fifth studio album, thank u, next, and it is clear that she isn't the person she used to be. The songs are empowering to herself and her audience. The sincerity and ingenuity overall are comprehensively immaculate. From the whistle tones to the runs and belts, her vocal technique is as promising as always. The transitions to and from the songs make the album that bit much better. As seen throughout the entire album, Ariana is versatile with her lyrics and harmonies. The snippets she teased truly are not enough to encompass the masterpiece that is positions. Overall, positions is a sonic, lyrical, and meticulously produced artwork, her best album yet. Expand

Grande is making no effort to be discreet, instead explicitly owning her sexuality—the album is called Positions, after all. The juxtaposition of beautiful violin sounds and risqué lyrics has become one of Grande’s signature sounds, and it suits her well.

Grande laid bare may well be seen as a stopgap in her canon, using taboo to checkmate her past trauma, but it does pull off the rare feat of at least sounding effortless.

With little conflict and few psychological insights, Positions zeroes in on the enviable confidence that only pop stars on top of the world and with nothing to lose can afford. It's easy to write it off as empty calories, but pop has always been described in such terms: cake, candy, chocolate, confection. Positions isn't a "sweetener" but pure sugar.
