I've been a LP fan since the beginning, and this is absolute crap. The only track worth listening to is Bleed it Out. They tried to do something different but ended up sounding like every crappy alternative rock band out there. nothing interesting going on. why did I buy this?

Linkin Park has improved the lyrical and thematic elements on their music, but in their effort to craft something beyond their nu-metal niche they have lost the excitement and energy that mad e their previous studio albums so much fun. The album is alright, but most Linkin Park fans will be (and, as far as I've seen, are) disappointed.

Linkin Park brought me into the Rock scene and i've been a die hard fan for several years after listening to this album i thought "is that it?" but after listening to it again i found that this is a good step forward. Althought this album is diverserly different from both Hybrid Theory and Meteora it serves itself on a whole different plate. Linkin Park have grown to become more than just a Nu-Metal group that fades away along with the genre itself. A HUGE disappointment. I love LP and I enjoyed every single track on Hybrid Theory and Meteora. I thought that this was going to be gold and now I am looking for any way to sell this CD. Their songs have lost the energy and the flavor that made them so popular. While I did enjoy "What I've Done," most everything else is just garbage. I really hope this is just a phase....really, really.

Not a great album, but not an entire failure. However, it's a splitting point for LP's fanbase as expect a lot of fans to leave...they'll get new fans though from the other songs.

My children think these guys are gods. And you would hope that having Rick Rubin behind the board would bring out the best in these schizophrenic songsters. Uh, nope. They still suck. It just goes to prove the old adage that you really can't make chicken cordon bleu out of guano.

This album is great. Although, it might take some time for the less open-minded LP fans to appreciate the change their sound has gone through. Two important questions come to mind when you approach the topic of a new Linkin Park album. 1) Are they still clinging to the marketable 'clean' nu-metal which was their claim to fame? and 2) If so...are they anything more than listenable? They've stepped out of the box with this album & toned down their style without loosing who they are. It's hit or miss with bands who don't load their songs chock full of layer upon layer of added guitar and what-have-you; people praise Coldplay for their simplicity in every way, but when a band like LP tries to do the same thing they get railed. The trick here is to forget what you know, let go, listen, and by the end of the last track you will be satisfied with an album, and not just a collection of the same song on repeat over and over again. "Minutes to Midnight" is a good album, though, not necessarily a great one. The first 6 or so tracks are top-notch; each has simple yet meaningful lyrics, sly production, and impressive vocal work. Unfortunately, as the album unfolds, the later-tunes tend to drag, and dare I say, bore.

More political lyrics and swearing doesn't make this a more mature album, it's a devolution if anything. Being a Linkin Park fan for almost 5 years, I'm so glad that they are brave and try to live up to a higher level. Yes, this album is no rap-metal/nu-metal, but is more mature and deeply-emotional. The lyrics are critical for social, political, and environmental issues. They gave in to the industry...plain and simple. None of their originality shines in this album. Probably the person to thank for this is producer, Rick Rubin. Let one person produce all the music and it will all sound the same (i.e. Timbaland). The only way to save this album is if they completely remixed it and called the album "Sorry For The Crappy CD....All Sales Final."

All Music Guide was right when they gave this 2/5. This album is not as good as their other works, and only has a couple of good songs.

they have coulple of songs that were questionable but the music is great i love their new sound if they kept on with nu-metal then the band would be shooting themselves in the foot(they wouldnt be getting that many sells)

Linkin Park are getting older and you can hear that everywhere on the album, so that is good cuz you can't stop natural evolution although there

mediocre. Obviously they've tried so hard to come up with this record, but those efforts are unfortunately nothing new. Nu-metal is nothing new, and what's worse is that they're trying to catch up by trying to go emo, which is also nothing new. Hopefully their next album will bring out the more progressive side of the band. Who knows, another 3-4 years?

I gave this a 5 because I only liked 1/2 of the songs. The songs that rock, really rock, but the slow songs - way too many slow emo songs. In an album that only has 11 songs (I don't count the minute-and-a-half instrumental), that sucks. I was so looking foward to this album - all I can say is that I'm disappointed. As another user said, I miss my old Linkin Park.

After being a devout Linkin Park follower for the last few years, I am convinced that this is their best album ever. Sure, they went a completely different direction with this one, but I am glad to see that they don't have to scream to make great music. I am sure that they will probably return to their old sound in the future, but I am mesmerized by this fantastic album.

I hate all the people that say this is a result of the band maturing... What putting out a cd that (except for like 3 tracks) emo ,put you to sleep tunes ?They even include politics throughout the cd which i felt was a big mistake and brings it down. LP strayed far from its style and alienated like 80% of its fanbase with this cd.. Pure disappointment...

I just don't know what happens!??! It's not Likin Park anymore, I almost though it was U2 sometimes...Very bad, what can I say more...The single wasn't that bad but the rest of the album is just terrible, there are maybe 2 or maximum 3 highlights and that's it, the rest of the album is just good for garbage...Sorry guys, Meteora was way much better!

Starts slow, but really kicks in once the rap portion of the rap/rock band does...not what you would expect from linkin park, but not altogether bad. I've been a Linkin Park fan for a while. While I'm not a huge fan, I've always liked their music and found their past CD's to have some really good songs on them. This new CD is quite a bit slower, (Although there are still some rocking songs,) and there's very little rap/rock in the same songs. (Usually it's one or the other.) Linkin Park fans will not necessarily enjoy this CD at first; as I said, it's entirely different and they may need to get used to it. But I hope they give it a chance because this is a very good CD. Would it have hurt the band to have thrown some Meteora/Hybrid-like songs on there? No, I guess not, and maybe they should have (at only 11 songs on here, it easily could have used more anyway,) but what is here is very good. After a couple listens it's pretty much my favorite CD in a while. Nice job, guys. Expand

No they didn't take that evolutionary step forward, but Linkin Park did make strived forward in the direction that they should. The problem with "Minutes to Midnight" is not that the rock doesn't rock, but that there's too many things held back. It's too much 30 Seconds to Mars meets Evanescence instead of Linkin Park. Mike Shinoda's smaller presence here also No they didn't take that evolutionary step forward, but Linkin Park did make strived forward in the direction that they should. Mike Shinoda's smaller presence here also seems to strike a negative mark on the album. Shinoda is the brains behind LP. His lyrical genius about oppression, overcoming adversity, and the way he vents is just so much more interesting than Chester screaming. If anything, they should have included perhaps a little more rap in the album, otherwise they should have just gone all out metal. The dancing in between is what cuts this album off. But in the end, you look back and say "that was actually pretty good". It's just not what we all were hoping for. Expand

This is by far better than I expected. After the loss of Nu-metal by Incubus and Lostprophets, I could only expect Linkin Park to do the same. 'A move away from their established rap rock sound' is a move away from everything that made them interesting and fun in the first place. Without it, they're just a generic mainstream band. Papa Roach pulled this same crap with Getting Away With Murder (and this album even borrows from that one in parts) and it really annoys me. 1. The California rap-rockers are stymied by their decision to stay roughly within the shrieky boundaries of their genre (albeit with less emphasis on the rap).
  2. Amid the stabs at growth, every new effect sounds borrowed.
  3. As you might imagine, the band’s emo makeover doesn’t always go smoothly.
