Lorde's sophomore album showcases her magnificent lyricism, artistic development, and idiosyncratic production. Every track is astounding and not a total disappointment. Melodrama is surely going to be included in the 2017 accolades.

Upon the album's release I decided I would give it a listen solely based on the fact that it was listed under an alternative genre. My first listen through of this album had me completely hooked. Lorde's ability to completely weave together such a touching and brutally honest story line about partying and being alone really hit home for me. It's been over a month and this is the only album I listen to anymore. Give this album a try, and read all the lyrics. You can tell that Melodrama is 100% Lorde's own experiences, ideas, and thoughts, not just the product of hot shot music executives.

It’s the kind collection that you don’t dare delete a single track; not that all eleven tracks are great, though many are (my favorites songs are “Hard Feelings/Loveless” and “Green Light”), but even the lesser ones (like in my opinion “Perfect Places”) are interesting in their own distinctness. Hard Feelings/Loveless, the central point of the album, is by far the strongest composition present. about 2.5 minutes in, a most earth shattering and invigorating experience occurs as the music begins to rattle from the core out. this track in particular feels like a detached rollercoaster soaring and rising above feelings of contempt and inferiority. Lorde brings power to every step she climbs, in the launch, in the process AND in the followthrough.

What can I say that hasn’t already been said? Lorde perfectly captures the feeling of an entire generation, a generation lost in a world alone.

Incredible, cohesive and gripping. Lorde's 11-track journeys the listener through young adult love, and heartbreak in the frame of a conceptual house party. Each line feels succinct with emotion, thanks to her vocal delivery as well as her writing skills. This is the voice of the generation.

"I waiting for it, that green light, I want it!".

Excellent album, though the production is somewhat overblown and all a bit ocean-like, the songwriting is as strong as ever. Not quite as sharp as Pure Heroine, but still a very solid listen.

Still only 20 years old, Lorde could have been forgiven for floundering under the weight of expectation. Instead she’s reasserted her status as today’s ultimate alt-pop artist with a record that balances the contemporary with the classic in typically immaculate style.
