First the fact the there were 20 songs is amazing, even combined with the ones from Persona EP, it was great. There is something for everyone - savage rap songs, happy friendship ones, something on more slow jam sexier side, also very deep and emotional ones for a good cry. What never stops to surprise me is that BTS always has the most amazing lyrics and does not shy away to speak on something important unlike a lot of modern acts kpop or not. The vocals and skillful rap was used amazingly. You can tell a lot of work was put in it and the boys themselves wrote/produced a lot which is always great when the artist themselves put work into it as much as they do. I wish more GP would consider giving this album a listen with translations, it's definitely worth a shot!

They talk about their struggles, but without painting the whole album as a melancholy induceded album, they talk about it but in a way that makes us all humans who are bound to struggle and overcome these obstacles with our own way. There are moments when they call out their haters, but there are moments where they profess their love for the friendship they built inside the group.

Some of the things that made me a little disappointed with the album were the amount of lyrics in English, but that's soemthing we can put aside because with the brilliance of their diction and playful manner with words it almost goes by unnoticed.

I really enjoy how they managed to showcase a bunch of geners and still make a cohesive album, even if some tracks weren't my favorite (some of the solos) I know why they were placed on the album.

For me this was a great step forward from the pop-y mainstream generic made for the american market that was MOTS: Persona. The time it took for it to be released was worth it.

I’ve seen the album described as being a love letter from BTS to their careers and all they’ve accomplished, which is gorgeously accurate. You can hear the emotion and hard work that poured into each word, which paired with the English translation of the lyrics makes for a touching listen. It was nice to sit down with my friends and listen to each of the songs together, being able to experience the album with the ones who introduced me to BTS in the first place was definitely something special. It truly is amazing how seven normal boys from Korea got together and became such a force all around the world, having impacted millions across the globe, despite any language differences, and created a community connecting these millions of people, in a place which they all feel safe and happy. This album, along with the others, is held in a special place in my heart and will certainly be listened to for plenty of years to come. Thank you BTS Expand

The group's ability to cross and blur genres (as SUGA identified "BTS style") is also what makes them special. While some tracks need few more listens to be fond of, MOTS:7 is ultimately a beautiful tapestry of BTS' seven years of journey, and deserves all the praise. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is probably among my top 3 most favorite albums out of all their works. What I love the most in the album is the contrast between shadow & light throughout the album. We have songs that address BTS and the hardships they had been through but we also have songs expressing how they manage to overcome these hardships. This album is basically their story including all the pains, sufferings, their darkest moments as well as their triumphants & success. My favorites from the album are Black Swan, Louder Than Bombs, Moon, Inner Child and of course the title track On. Overall, wonderful album & I highly recommend you give their music a chance without initial judgement. You might be surprised in what you will find. Expand

    Gracias ;)

I appreciate BTS attempts to join up concepts, genres, instruments, and meta-music (such as diverse and large groups of people involved) in the production. Those are worth-following process. Most of the tracks are greatly polished and meeting market demand, not to mention to be performed at the upcoming stadium concert. However, although I love each beautifully-made tracks, there are at least 2 things bother me about this whole-ness of the album.

The first is by how the message draws out through the entire album, in which feeling too positivistic. Yes, the message is "to face your shadow and acclaim your individuality". But that one single message is repeated on and on through out the tracks. If only 'Black Swan' and 'Interlude: Shadow' did not have that a glimpse lyrics of "sweet cause-effect promises", they two will serve better as the album's abyss, and work as a contrasting point.

That brings me to the second thing. I wonder why they chopped the sequence of tracks in a "logical" classification. As a result, it brought me to a clear distinction 1/3 of Persona part, and the rest 2/3 is heavier on the struggle-to-the-shadow narratives -past self and conflicts also shadow too, right?-. If they mix the tracks a bit, putting up Dionysus and Jamai Vu at the second-third part, and maybe we can have that dynamic "cinematic-like experience" of the album.

However, like I stated above, the tracks are beyond expectation. It is hard to point one favorite. I like their old-school 'Ugh' as big as '00:00'. 'Intro: Persona', 'Interlude: Shadow', and 'Outro: Ego' each have strong character, polishing each individuality of the rap line. To that, V's lyric in 'Inner Child' and Jin's in 'Moon' both tries to possess it, but in my opinion, still not really emerge in terms of musicality. But if we listen to 'Louder than Bombs', 'On', and 'Black Swan', I still hope I can witness for the evolving musicality of vocal-line in the future.

By the way, somewhere in the past I've comment on BTS aesthetics. Recent Commentary Film provided by Hitman Bang "Dialogue" also dig-up about it, in which brings me back to Bang PD's speech on late 2019 (or early 2020?) award speech, and his interview with TIME magazine (2019). Bang PD highlights BTS's stance on social issues, which arguably, have been the main resource of BTS aesthetic production. We still remember old 'N.O', 'Spring Day', 'Fire', 'Run', etc. In the MOTS:7, if we think about those Bang PD speech, interview, RM and Jin speeches... an ARMY or two can relate 'UGH' and 'Respect' that serves social critique to malicious comments that brought two K-idols tragically pass-away. Yet, international media most probably not aware of that. As a result, most media criticize the album as to more into self-inward. It's OK, it still match with psychological concept at the background, yet, considering how social-issues are one great pillar of mozaic-of-identity of BTS aesthetics, I hope them and BigHit at large would address this significantly, especially since they are desiring Grammy as a bonus.

On the last note, overall, I enjoy every tracks in this album. Thank you BTS for this easy to enjoy, not even boring, and a track list hype me up doing my thing. I give 7 to the score; RM's lucky number and his desired score, as I believe BTS will keep evolving better and better. Let's see. :)

MAP OF THE SOUL : 7 navigates through countless themes: fear, fame, friendship, love, hate and respect — all these are contradictory but somehow the group managed to put them into an emotional, raw and cohesive album. I got butterflies listening to the songs, but when I read the lyrics... I had a breakdown — that's how much it felt close to home. To me, with this album, they did what it needs to be a real and complete musician and artist — connect and thrill people with their own experiences by portraying it in a relatable way. This album really convey such wonderful message that everyone no matter age, genre nor religion should avoid. This album is one of the best albums that has ever been released, for how it portraits BTS most personal and self referential works, including their most deepest feelings. Each songs in this albums convey different messages we have:
Shadow: this song talks about our deepest feelings that everyone feels once we climb higher our shadows follow us and we tend to run away from them, but at the end we should all embrace it, because that's what makes us who we are. (The shadows represent our imperfections.) We as humans tend to be perfect but always forget our imperfections which is what makes us who we are.
Black Swan: Talks about how they want to dive deep into their inner selves and face the shadows that once they tried to avoid.
Filter: This song shows the different side of Jimin we see Jimin as someone kind hearted and a sweet angel, but this song shows a side that has never been seen. This song makes a lot of references from the movie aladdin with a mixture of their old song Pied Piper.
My Time: This song tells Jungkook's personal journey as part of BTS, refering his days when he first became a trainee at the age of 14 and always felt like his life was a movie, but never got to experience the normal life that we all got to experience.
Louder than bombs: This song we get to hear BTS still question their identity and try to find the right answer that they've long tried to search.
ON: This title track talks about all that BTS have gone through all the hardships they've endure since they debutie till now, but at the end no matter all the negativity they willl still fight back and stronger.
UGH: This song is where BTS rap line adresses the haters and detractors once more.
Zero O'Clock: a track from the vocal line in which talks about how when the clock strickes zero its a new beginning to start your new day full of happiness, which is why they represent it as the comforting hour.
Inner Child: Talks about V's story how at a young age he became an artist and never got to experience how to be a kid and so this song taks about how much he wishes to at least feel what its like to be a normal kid.
Friends: This song talks about the friendship of Jimin and V, this song talks about all their memories they have made together through out the years and their desire to stay BFFs for eternity.
Moon: Jin sing this song using metaphors of the moon who is him and earth which represents ARMY and BTS, which talks about how no matter what he will always be there if we ever need a light that shines our darkest skies.
Respect: This song is a sub unit of RM with Suga that feels more of a conversation between them both as they try to find the meaning and the implications of being respected and the mere concept itself.
We are Bulletproof: the eternal: A clear ode song to army and BTS in which talks about the journey that BTS and ARMY have went through starting in the year 2013. This song talks about all the ups and downs that we have gone through together. At the end of the song we can hear the words "We are not seven with you" which shows that even if BTS has seven memebers they will always count ARMY as part of their family.
Outro: Ego: This closing track JHope narrates the journey that he has taken in which includes the past hard times, but at the end accepting them as a way to be able to move forward thus acepting his "EGO"

All this messages that have been sent through the different styles of music is what makes this album one of the best albums to ever been released for how at the end we all share this same experiance through our lives.

There are no other artists like them in the current music industry and they always bring something new, meaningful and beautiful to the table. In this case, Map of The Soul: 7 brings a clear message: times of sadness and fear are impossible to run away from but after a long fight, there is happiness. This message is shared through multiple, beautiful tracks with influence of different genres. Examples of this are tracks such as Louder Than Bombs, Black Swan, Outro: Ego, and the title track, On. In the good old BTS fashion way, they don’t shy away from sharing their struggles as artists and human beings - some of them, I truly believe any person can relate to. These seven men aren’t afraid of being intimate with their music, which turns the listening experience even more special, especially when you read the (translated) lyrics. In terms of musicality and as mentioned before, BTS manage to be influenced by different genres without making their albums sound messy. No track sounds the same as the one before but together they form a very cohesive flow.
For those who don’t enjoy the album, you are absolutely allowed to. However, creating an account solely to give it 0 starts and throw a few insults shows you aren’t here to judge the music but to share your personal grudge against this group. At the end of the day, Map of The Soul: 7 is a critically acclaimed album, loved by fans and non-fans around the world.

BTS always reinvent themselves and their message through their music. This album clearly showed their growth. It is powerful & impactful but also deeply personal &emotional. Their journey to this moment is evident in the background of almost every song, coincidentally like a shadow.
Its clear how much thought they've put into this album from the concept to the lyrics to the music videos.

The lead single ON is upbeat and incorporates a marching band into its core theme proving that music is truly universal and transcendent. And even in the midst of hate and disrespect towards certain genres of music including Kpop, music itself embraces with such fluidity themes from genres which are unknown and foreign to it thus creating amazing songs like this one. BTS with ON speaks about facing the reality of understanding they cannot outrun their lives, and while they greatly enjoy the good there is a heavy burden that comes with the job that they've tried to shake and escape. But now they've finally accepted it and come to terms with understanding how to live with it. I believe they're referring to the widely disputed negative aspects of the 'Idol' industry which is said to keep it's artists on a metaphorical knife-edge. So many talented young lives have been lost because of inadequate protection from these negative aspects. BTS have now reached a stage where they accept themselves and the titles they bare and choose to not be affected by the negativeness storming around them.

Both Shadow and Ego which introduce and conclude the album respectively are perfectly well balanced. They both sample intro themes from their previous albums in-keeping with the theme of 'reflection' etched throughout this album. Shadow is insightful, melancholic and exhumes the qualities, insecurities and doubts buried deep within us encouraging us to face and accept them as BTS has. It's the perfect song to introduce the second half of the Map of the Soul album which offsets the Persona so well. Bringing down the preppy and bright persona to face the hidden parts of one's soul. Ego concludes the album on a fun upbeat note but still maintaining the album's central theme (and the running theme of all BTS discography for that matter) of self-acceptance. The song beautifully describes the journey of conflict between one's aspirations and the difficulty of accomplishing them, the sacrifices made and the regret that follow. J- hope explores conflict in his soul despite heading towards his goal and reflecting on past mistakes and choices made but finally coming to accept that they all shaped the person he is today, choosing to trust himself and the know that he chooses his own fate. Lyrically it's one of my favourite songs of the album and a perfect send off for the era.

New tracks in MOTS7 include 6 solos including the above to complete the 7 solos by each member with RM's Intro: Persona from MOTSP. The solos are diverse and showcase each individual member's taelnts and unique perspective. Filter on the surface is a latin-music infused number that just makes you want to dance but delving deeper it engages you with his message of showing a multitude of personas to the world ('filters') entertaining a large fandom with his colourful personality but at the same time none can truly know him. An interesting concept. My time by JK, is beautifully written, taking a heartbreakingly honest view at growing up in the heart of fame, feeling detached from oneself and watching their life go by as if it's a movie. It's really worth listening and reading up on because the song is an absolute gem. JK's outstanding vocals also make it an instant hit. Inner Child is such a tender and emotional song with V's unique vocals giving it a nostalgic feeling as if we were turning back time with him and watching his younger self grow. It's a heartwarming song where V wants to thank his younger self for enduring so much wishing he could show him it was all worth it and his dreams came true. I teared up reading these lyrics it was one of the most memorable songs in MOTS7. Moon by Jin is also so heartwarming, a love song full of sweet moments and adoration, an instant favourite and the perfect mood-lifter.

Running out of characters to write more but I could write for days about this album. But I'll leave some songs to surprise you if you read this far to know about MOTS7. Finally, I will say if you ever loved BTS music, or if you became a fan listening to this album, it doesn't matter, if you listen to We Are Bulletproof Eternal, it will reach out and touch your soul. It is that emotional embrace you've unknowingly been waiting for this whole album, and you wouldn't want it to end.

    Was this album good? Unquestionably.
Would you like it if you haven't listened to Kpop? Yes. It's a genre defying album.
Will you enjoy it if you don't know what they are saying? Read lyrics, listen and see if you have the same question.
I genuinely hope you enjoy this album! Borahae

Persona lacked the natural fluidity and chicness of their best music. Those problems aren’t exactly mitigated here, since most of those songs appear on this album too, but within this new context, they feel like a flashback before the saga continues. Many of the new songs are better about balancing Easter eggs for day-ones with new entry points for more casual listeners.
