They really explored the ideas that are explained in the book "YUNG: Map of the Soul" by Murray Stein in a smart and amazing way while telling their personal stories. It's amazing because this way they're exemplifying in a clear and accessible way some of the most important ideas of psychology, they're teaching while bringing entertainment. This is what makes this album special, while it is best-selling, it has a deep meaning and hard work behind, it is not just music made to sell. They have a big influence, and what they're doing with this influence is amazing. They're bringing just positive impacts, encouraging people to search for art (CONNECT BTS project), search about psychology which is very important nowadays, to love yourself etc. Could not receive less than 10. it's a let down for me. the album is full of auto tune which does not sound good... the singles sound like something a bad western rapper/trap artist would release... idk this whole map of the soul series is a huge disappointment especially after love yourself series. i only like 2 or 3 songs..

I appreciate BTS attempts to join up concepts, genres, instruments, and meta-music (such as diverse and large groups of people involved) in the production. Those are worth-following process. Most of the tracks are greatly polished and meeting market demand, not to mention to be performed at the upcoming stadium concert. However, although I love each beautifully-made tracks, there are at least 2 things bother me about this whole-ness of the album.

The first is by how the message draws out through the entire album, in which feeling too positivistic. Yes, the message is "to face your shadow and acclaim your individuality". But that one single message is repeated on and on through out the tracks. If only 'Black Swan' and 'Interlude: Shadow' did not have that a glimpse lyrics of "sweet cause-effect promises", they two will serve better as the album's abyss, and work as a contrasting point.

That brings me to the second thing. I wonder why they chopped the sequence of tracks in a "logical" classification. As a result, it brought me to a clear distinction 1/3 of Persona part, and the rest 2/3 is heavier on the struggle-to-the-shadow narratives -past self and conflicts also shadow too, right?-. If they mix the tracks a bit, putting up Dionysus and Jamai Vu at the second-third part, and maybe we can have that dynamic "cinematic-like experience" of the album.

However, like I stated above, the tracks are beyond expectation. It is hard to point one favorite. I like their old-school 'Ugh' as big as '00:00'. 'Intro: Persona', 'Interlude: Shadow', and 'Outro: Ego' each have strong character, polishing each individuality of the rap line. To that, V's lyric in 'Inner Child' and Jin's in 'Moon' both tries to possess it, but in my opinion, still not really emerge in terms of musicality. But if we listen to 'Louder than Bombs', 'On', and 'Black Swan', I still hope I can witness for the evolving musicality of vocal-line in the future.

By the way, somewhere in the past I've comment on BTS aesthetics. Recent Commentary Film provided by Hitman Bang "Dialogue" also dig-up about it, in which brings me back to Bang PD's speech on late 2019 (or early 2020?) award speech, and his interview with TIME magazine (2019). Bang PD highlights BTS's stance on social issues, which arguably, have been the main resource of BTS aesthetic production. We still remember old 'N.O', 'Spring Day', 'Fire', 'Run', etc. In the MOTS:7, if we think about those Bang PD speech, interview, RM and Jin speeches... an ARMY or two can relate 'UGH' and 'Respect' that serves social critique to malicious comments that brought two K-idols tragically pass-away. Yet, international media most probably not aware of that. As a result, most media criticize the album as to more into self-inward. It's OK, it still match with psychological concept at the background, yet, considering how social-issues are one great pillar of mozaic-of-identity of BTS aesthetics, I hope them and BigHit at large would address this significantly, especially since they are desiring Grammy as a bonus.

On the last note, overall, I enjoy every tracks in this album. Thank you BTS for this easy to enjoy, not even boring, and a track list hype me up doing my thing. I give 7 to the score; RM's lucky number and his desired score, as I believe BTS will keep evolving better and better. Let's see. :)

Yet, instead of slowing down and putting less effort into their art, the group seems to just keep pushing themselves as artists with every album.
And this time around, they haven't just delivered the quality fans expect them to (considering their track-record), they even stepped it up yet again. There are songs to get you hyped, songs that will break your heart, songs that will make you think about your own life. Both lyrically and musically, this "Map of the Soul: 7" has become my absolute favorite of theirs, even trumping queen “Love Yourself: Tear“! (I know, unbelievable.) I’ve been addicted to the songs ever since the release!

    BTS just truly never disappoints.

    Gracias ;)

This album is basically their story including all the pains, sufferings, their darkest moments as well as their triumphants & success. While some tracks need few more listens to be fond of, MOTS:7 is ultimately a beautiful tapestry of BTS' seven years of journey, and deserves all the praise. I am no music expert, but I believe when critics or anyone who listens to this album rate it, they always miss out on trying to read the translation of the lyrics which plays an important role in music. Nowadays people focus on the beat, instead of the lyrics, which I believe takes away the whole experience of listening music. However, BTS has proved that they do not slack off with their lyric writing and poured their heart out into this album. From Suga revealing his inner conflict with the fame he is currently receiving as being now one of the top artists in the world in "Interlude: Shadow" to BTS's worries and fears of losing their passion on the stage in "Black Swan" to their undying appreciation for their fans supporting them despite of all the pain and despair they faced in "We Are Bulletproof: Eternal" to J-Hope's determination and confidence to pursue his current pathway as an artist, BTS managed to convey their journey as a group who have been together for 7 years and who also have the support of their most loyal fandom, ARMY. Their title song, "ON," is their anthem showing that they will continue to work hard and stay true to their message and beliefs despite all the hate they receive. If you are unaware of BTS's message and beliefs, they all believe in providing music that heals and gives comfort and happiness to those who listen to it. In the lyrics, they also accept who they are and show their determination to not give up their love for the stage and their passion in music. Once again in this album, the vocal line, Jungkook, Jimin, Jin, and V, provide us soothing and emotional-provoking vocals in "00:00," which portrays the group's desire for their fans to stay happy no matter what while the rap line, RM, Suga, and J-Hope, engage in complex, but fun and thought-provoking, wordplay that discusses their haters' unnecessary rage and hate towards the group. In this album, we also see new tracks from the vocal line, which ranges from Jungkook discussing about himself missing out many things during his childhood due to the fact he debuted as BTS at the age of 15 in "My Time" to V depicting his journey of his self changing through time and accepting that change in "Inner Child" to Jimin telling how he has to show or change many different sides of himself for the satisfaction of others in "Filter" to Jin explaining his love for ARMY and his appreciation for them supporting him and the group in "Moon." Also, we cannot forget RM starting off the album with him questioning who he truly is and who he wants to be in "Persona," which is also found in their previous album, "Map of the Soul: Persona." I would like to continue to talk about the other tracks, but I believe I should stop here since I wrote a long review. Yes, it is true that I am biased with BTS, but isn't everyone biased on some things? No matter what this is just my personal take on this album, and of course I am not saying my personal take is the ultimate truth. People have different tastes in music, so it is totally fine that BTS's music does not fit your vibe. However, I believe this album is BTS's best work out of all the works they have created because it shows their journey and maturity as artists and is probably THE album that shows the boys' rawest feelings and emotions. I also appreciate how all of the members of this group participated in composing and writing the lyrics in this album. Hopefully, I wish you all of those who like, have some interest in, or absolutely dislike BTS listen to their music with an open mind and without prejudice. Expand

They talk about their struggles, but without painting the whole album as a melancholy induceded album, they talk about it but in a way that makes us all humans who are bound to struggle and overcome these obstacles with our own way. There are moments when they call out their haters, but there are moments where they profess their love for the friendship they built inside the group.

Some of the things that made me a little disappointed with the album were the amount of lyrics in English, but that's soemthing we can put aside because with the brilliance of their diction and playful manner with words it almost goes by unnoticed.

I really enjoy how they managed to showcase a bunch of geners and still make a cohesive album, even if some tracks weren't my favorite (some of the solos) I know why they were placed on the album.

For me this was a great step forward from the pop-y mainstream generic made for the american market that was MOTS: Persona. The time it took for it to be released was worth it.

First the fact the there were 20 songs is amazing, even combined with the ones from Persona EP, it was great. There is something for everyone - savage rap songs, happy friendship ones, something on more slow jam sexier side, also very deep and emotional ones for a good cry. What never stops to surprise me is that BTS always has the most amazing lyrics and does not shy away to speak on something important unlike a lot of modern acts kpop or not. The vocals and skillful rap was used amazingly. You can tell a lot of work was put in it and the boys themselves wrote/produced a lot which is always great when the artist themselves put work into it as much as they do. I wish more GP would consider giving this album a listen with translations, it's definitely worth a shot!

This encapsulates their emotions greatly. The way they genre hop from song to song while making consistent beats, lyrics, and flows is an incredible way to convey their feelings about how it's like to be worldwide famous artists. It's beautiful to see them at the place they are at now. They will continue to shine because they are amazing people with true talent across the board.

I've been a BTS fan since 2016, a K-Pop fan since 2014, and perhaps have known K-pop for longer than that. I've listened to really good albums and very subpar ones, but I don't think any K-pop album has given me as much joy as Map of the Soul: 7 has. I'm usually never compelled to write reviews for most things in my life, but this album is really something else.

Just when I thought BTS couldn't step it up any further, once again, they've shown a new sound to us and showing that they are always experimenting. It's honestly such a mature sound, it makes everything else they've done in the past not necessarily bad, but a little lacking in what MOTS: 7 delivered to us.

They have travelled through so many genres in this album alone, from the Latin beats of "Filter" to the hard-hitting rap of "UGH!" and the R&B vibes of "My Time". I can't even list all the genres because each one has its own flavor, and even when I have a "least favorite" song, it's never been something I've actually disliked. I also love how they collaborated with people across the globe, even going to younger artists in the UCLA music departments, and showed that music can reach anyone.

I also think this is the most personal album BTS has written. RM was not kidding when he said that this was pretty much their career diary in an album, and even before I read the lyric translations, I could almost feel what they were feeling: all the pain and anguish of fame as seen in "Interlude: Shadow" but the joy of being with their fans and looking up to the future as seen in "WAB: The Eternal" and "Outro: Ego".; Jungkook's conflict with growing up too fast in "My Time" and V & Jimin's beautiful friendship as seen in "Friends"; even the older releases in the album like "Intro: Persona" played a nice interlude into the newer releases and a nice hats off to their debut era selves. They also make sure to talk to us as well as listeners, like in "Moon" when Jin was singing directly about ARMY and "00:00" was a nice comfort song that tells us it's never too late to start over.

Listening to this album felt like getting a hug regardless of what was playing because it felt like we were getting to know them, but they were also trying to help us as well.

I think I almost teared up the first time I listened to this album: it is by far the best K-Pop album I've ever had the pleasure of listening to, and I'm pretty sure I will never shut up about this album because it is living beyond all the hype it was given.

Persona lacked the natural fluidity and chicness of their best music. Those problems aren’t exactly mitigated here, since most of those songs appear on this album too, but within this new context, they feel like a flashback before the saga continues. Many of the new songs are better about balancing Easter eggs for day-ones with new entry points for more casual listeners.
