This new 2024 remix by Paul Hicks and Dhani Harrison brings the album into greater relief when compared to previous releases: the orchestral arrangements are brought out of the murk, Harrison’s vocals are clearer and sharper, and the album’s peculiar air of dry, ascetic starkness is increased. .... Rather than being driven by a holier-than-thou smugness, this is an album whose wracked, painful honesty and sense of deep disappointment rivals that of John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band. As they did with the fiftieth anniversary edition of All Things Must Pass, Paul Hicks and the Harrison family have delivered an excellent reminder of the greatness of George Harrison after and, in certain instances, the equal of his musicianship in The Beatles.

The half-century edition is a stunning piece of work, delivered with the love and care you would expect.

Living in the Material World is full of George Harrison moments worth rediscovering.

For fans of Big Star (particularly their third album) or Gram Parsons, this album offers a similar unadorned beauty. The Super Deluxe Edition of this reissue includes a bonus disc with 12 previously unreleased early renditions of the album tracks. .... Some of the acoustic versions are quite the equal of their finished counterparts.

An album that’s intimate in mood no matter how expansive in sound. .... Generally, the alternate takes offer little more than subtle differences, such as the lack of Indian instrumentation during the middle section of “Living in the Material World,” but the pair of non-LP songs add a dose of good cheer that’s conspicuously lacking on the original album.

As a whole, this ambitious compendium of some of George Harrison’s finest tracks are ideal for fans discovering the magic of ‘Living In The Material World’ for the first time, or indeed for those wishing to revisit it.
