  1. A well-made, funky, fun record that proves two things -- the Hi sound lives and Al Green still has it.
  2. I Can’t Stop blows away the dust and finds more life and gutbucket flash in a seemingly inexhaustible vein.
  3. The funk on the reverend's latest may be too smooth for some, but I Can't Stop will make even casual fans want to jump up and kiss somebody.
  4. Though the songs are sometimes little more than vamps, the interplay is faultless.
  5. Mojo

He is, if anything, singing better than ever. [Dec 2003, p.104]
  6. This is a great work of soul music.... So what's the problem? Well, I'm not really sure that it's fair to say it, but I will, and let the cards fall where they may: This record is too happy.
  7. Q Magazine

Almost classic Green. [Jan 2004, p.114]
  8. If there's a flaw, it's that the production is too sharp; the warm murkiness of Green's Hi era is much missed.
  9. I Can't Stop is impressively consistent: There's not a sub-par song in the bunch.
  10. But I Can't Stop has more to offer than a rush of nostalgia. The songwriting is largely superb, which keeps the album from sounding like a clever pastiche.
  11. Uncut

    It's not amazing... but it's great. [Jan 2004, p.106]
  12. Vibe

Though age has dirtied up Green's once angelic tenor, all it takes is a swaying guitar-organ, cooing harmonies, surging horns, and rapturous lyrics to conjure up his ol' black magic. [Jan 2004, p.122]

Al Green's comeback is a thing of beauty. He still sounds like he did all those years ago.
