Si duda ella ha demostrado que ha dejado por un momento el estilo Pop/Rock que tanto la carateizaba para explorar nuevos estilos y nuevos generos. Tal vez no fue el resultado que muchos esperaban, pero el album abarca una buena tematica y un excelente mensaje, Avril no ha defraudado con su excelente composicion y con sus letras melancolicas que a mas de 1 hace sentir identificado o especial.     01 - HEAD ABOVE WATER: Avril abre o disco falando como se sentiu durante esse tempo em que esteve em seu pior momento, quando penso que seu corpo estava se desligando aos poucos, morrendo. Ela sentiu que estava se afogando e pediu a Deus que mantivesse sua cabeça acima d'água, que a viesse salvar,    Um inegável amadurecimento em sua carreira, sua voz, suas composições e suas produções.

    01 - HEAD ABOVE WATER: Avril abre o disco falando como se sentiu durante esse tempo em que esteve em seu pior momento, quando penso que seu corpo estava se desligando aos poucos, morrendo. Ela sentiu que estava se afogando e pediu a Deus que mantivesse sua cabeça acima d'água, que a viesse salvar, que estava esperando por Ele. A faixa dá nome ao álbum. Possui uma carga dramática incrível, batidas emocionantes e um instrumental poderoso. Foi lançada como lead single desta era, não podia haver acerto maior.

    02 - BIRDIE: outra música com um instrumental poderoso e uma melodia incrível! Ela nos remete a baladas poderosas do segundo álbum de estúdio da canadense (Under My Skin). Lavigne canta sobre se sentir presa como um pássaro em uma gaiola, sobre querer voar alto. É uma das melhores do álbum.

    03 - I FEEL IN LOVE WITH THE DEVIL: essa é uma das músicas mais bem produzidas do álbum e, arrisco a dizer, de toda a carreira. Na faixa que inicia com um violino maravilhoso e toques de piano de arrepiar, Avril nos conta sobre uma pessoa pela qual se apaixonou, que foi como ter se apaixonado pelo diabo, que se sentia em um inferno, que a relação a estava matando e tudo que ela queria era que um anjo viesse salvá-la. Soa muito como músicas da banda Evanescence.

    04 - TELL ME IT'S OVER: essa foi o segundo single da era. Uma aposta totalmente diferente do habitual som de Lavigne. Um instrumental bonito, vocais maduros e poderosos, um ar meio "soul", onde nos fala ainda sobre um relacionamento tóxico, que ela sabe que precisa acabar, mas que nem sempre é tão fácil assim romper.

    05 - DUMB BLONDE: logo de cara temos um choque ao ouvir esta música, que nos lembra um dos maiores álbuns de sucesso da cantora, o The Best Damn Thing, que garantiu o primeiro #1 da carreira. É uma faixa animada, com batidas "a la" Hollaback Girl, com um ar "cheer leader". A letra é muito empoderada e, em entrevista, Avril disse que foi uma resposta a um homem que disse que ela era apenas uma loira burra. Ela responde com "me assista mostrar que você está errado". Temos uma versão solo da música onde ela faz um rap no final, e também uma (que se tornou o terceiro single do álbum) com a rapper Nicki Minaj. É de longe a faixa mais diferente de todo álbum.

    06 - IT WAS IN ME: com certeza uma das melhores músicas da carreira, que também lembra um pouco algo do álbum Under My Skin. Essa é uma música sobre procurar suas forças, procurar sua fé em vários lugares, sobre encontrar Deus e principalmente a fé em si mesmo. O refrão é poderoso, as batidas são incríveis e a letra é uma obra de arte.

    07 - SOUVENIR: depois de tantas faixas pesadas, temos uma música gostosinha de ouvir, que um pouco na letra e um pouco na melodia e na "batidinha" gostosa, nos lembra músicas do primeiro álbum, Let Go (que também é um dos maiores álbuns de todos os tempos). Lavigne fala sobre um amor de verão, sobre sentimentos dessa época, coisas passageiras e que não duram (mas que podem durar, quem sabe?) e sobre querer levar isso guardado consigo, como uma lembrancinha de viagem (souvenir).

    08 - CRUSH: o nome da faixa pode não animar muito e soar clichê, mas não se engane. O instrumental da música surpreende no início, os vocais lembram um pouco Tell Me It's Over. Poderia ter sido lançada no Natal, tem um ar bem propício a essa época do ano. A música surpreende muito em letra, melodia e sentimento.

    09 - GODDESS: única música mais acústica do álbum. O violão traz uma harmonia muito boa que combina perfeitamente com o estilo da música. Algumas rimas aqui soam engraçadas, mas é aquele sentimento de sentir-se amado e meio bobo. É muito divertida!

    10 - BIGGER WOW: "na na na na. na na na..." É assim que começa uma das músicas mais animadas do álbum e que condiz com seu restante. É uma "good vibes" de qualidade, que também lembra um pouco algumas músicas do Let Go, como My World e Things Will I Never Say. Deve ficar maravilhosa cantada ao vivo!

    11 - LOVE ME INSANE: a faixa segue uma linha animada também, talvez um pouco inferior a produção impecável de algumas outras faixas, mas ainda assim é uma música muito boa, Avril mostra que sabe que ainda tem muita coisa boa por vir em sua vida.

    12 - WARRIOR: como todo enceramento de álbum da cantora, é uma faixa poderosa e maravilhosa. Warrior também remete à doença de Lyme e a batalha que a cantora enfrentou e ainda enfrenta. Nela sabemos que Avril não irá se curvar, não irá quebrar, que continua e continuará sempre lutando por sua vida e sua saúde. Os violinos são de arrepiar! A faixa é carregada e poderosa, é linda e nos faz ter vontade de ouvir o álbum todo novamente.    … Expand

    HAW is a mature album. She clearly evolved comparing to the last three of her career. The only frank point is Dumb Blonde that is different of the rest of the songs from this album.

    Lavigne passou 2 anos em sua cama certo? esse álbum retrata bem o que a mulher passou e viveu, enfrentou a morte e a derrotou e fez sua Vitória em um álbum surpreendentemente bonito, as mensagens que as músicas passam e claro o significado que cada uma tem para lavigne, uma de minhas favoritas foi birdie e tenho certeza que falo em nome dos fãs que ela poderia ser seu próximo single.

    Change is the only constant. I know this is a different Avril from the one I fell in love with, but I'm not 15 anymore. She has grown so much over the past decade. To the older me, this is by far her best work.

    O novo projeto da Avril é bastante pessoal. É um disco com bastante baladas que falam sobre o período difícil que ela passou com a doença de Lyme, mas também fala muito sobre relacionamento abusivo. A Avril fez um projeto bem nostálgico e forte, e, claramente com os vocais mais poderosos. Faixas como Birdie e I Fell in Love With the Devil mostra que a cantora está evoluindo bastante. EsseO novo projeto da Avril é bastante pessoal.     This album is not perfect, but is really a great one. You can hear Avril Lavigne's struggles while singing songs such as "Head Above Water", "I Fell In Love With The Devil" and "Birdie". Her voice is so raw and honest, the melody and the production in most songs are so f****** good. It gives me goosebumps everytime. There are also sweet, bop songs that takes back memories of the summerThis album is not perfect, but is really a great one. You can hear Avril Lavigne's struggles while singing songs such as "Head Above Water", "I Fell In Love With The Devil" and "Birdie". Her voice is so raw and honest, the melody and the production in most songs are so f****** good. It gives me goosebumps everytime.     This all album it´s powerfull, beautiful and very pretty for the fans and the new fans cause this album give us the oportunity to see how inspirational the music is and told us a true story for fight for still alive and give always the best. Avril Give us one of her best albums.

    This album is the real masterpiece of Avril's career. Intimate, personal, calm, profound. Dumb Blonde is the most pathetic song on the album, which does not match the rest of it. Could be discarded or taken advantage of another time. Head Above Water (Song) remains the best along with Tell Me It's Over.

    This album was made to showcase Lavigne's voice - the fact that she was even able to make an album, and sound as incredible as she does (really the best vocals of her career) is an act of defiance and a huge accomplishment in itself, given her health issues. But even with that aside, this is a fantastic album that has some of the best songs of her career.

But even with that aside, this is a fantastic album that has some of the best songs of her career.

    I understand, to a degree, why critics don't love it. I can see why some might say it's disjointed or lacks cohesion, but I disagree. It tells a story from start to finish, with different styles and sounds that I think make up an interesting and diverse record. It genre-hops, like her previous album, which is something I really appreciate about Avril. I don't think she has ever fully found her groove when it comes to music, which I find artistically intriguing - she's always trying something new, seeing what works for her and then moves on to something else. Sometimes the choices are unexpected or puzzling, but that means you never know what you're going to get, which I think makes Lavigne an exciting artist to follow. The jazzy/soul vibe on Tell Me It's Over and Crush suit her voice insanely well, in my opinion.

    This has been fluctuating a lot, but my favourites are Crush, It Was In Me, Tell Me It's Over and Birdie. Devil is an incredible song, but as with Head Above Water, it's pretty heavy and it's not a song I think I'd listen to constantly. But when I'm feeling moody it will definitely be a go-to. In general I'd say her verses are stronger than her choruses - I love the verses of every single song (Souvenir's verses are a highlight of the album for me). A strength of Avril's has always been her melodies.

    As a lifelong Avril fan, it's not often I get to be excited over new music, so I am taking full advantage. Biased as I may be, I do believe this is a very strong album that deserves more praise than it's getting from critics. Her voice is better than ever, and I'm excited to see what unexpected turns she takes in her music next.    … Expand

    This album is such a emotional and insprirational, of course there are a couple of songs that don't connect with the drama and the feeling of the album, but the songs like it was in me, Birdie and I feel in love with the Devil are so deep and well done. Avril's voice is so clear that you can't feel the feeling of each balad song . congrats Avril , I'd love to give you a hug.

    The title of the album hints to the one and only good track on the album. Avril totally wasted a chance to make a good album since her last 2 were really disappointing. But this is just useless. 9/12 songs are so basic that if anybody out here sing them there would be no difference. What a pity.

    Um retorno digno de um Grammy e entre outros prêmios importantes.
    Neste álbum podemos ouvir músicas sobre sua batalha e superação contra a doença de Lyme, que deixou Avril longe da música por longos anos (Head Above Water, faixa título do álbum). Também músicas que enaltecem o poder da mulher (Dumb Blonde) que conta com a parceria da rapper Nicki Minaj, onde ambas mostram que são mais do que podem aparentar, que comandam suas próprias vidas e são completamente independentes. E também músicas profundamente românicas, falando sobre suas experiências amorosas e como ser tratada como uma deusa por alguém ("Crush", "Goddess" e "Love Me Insane".
    Mas podemos podemos destacar sua evolução vocal e musical, com letras, melodias e instrumentais impecáveis, como "Birdie", "I Fell In Love With The Devil" e "it Was In Me", que possivelmente são as melhores e mais aclamadas pelos fãs.
    Para finalizar, Avril realmente acertou em nos proporcionar a chance de ouvir este álbum da forma que ele é, porque é um álbum digno de uma cantora talentosa e consolidada.    … Expand

    I loved Head Above Water so much. I loved all of the songs, but my favorites are "Birdie" "I Fell In Love With The Devil" "Souvenir" and "Love Me Insane" because they have the most beautiful lyrics.
    How can i escape this place? How can i avoid the flames from your fire?
    I fell in love with the devil. I'm underneath his spell. Please save me from this hell. Maybe spend your whole life    I loved Head Above Water so much.     The title track is definitely a strong, empowering song which opens the album perfectly. The second single released is also a great and soulful balad that I really wish that it was emulated more throughout the album. The rest of the songs just feels very boring and unimpressive and fails to deliver a great tracklist.

Of course her blind fans are going to come here to give it a 10 but this album is a HUGE, MASSIVE disappointment. Listening to it was painful. Poorly written songs, shallow lyrics, ridiculous teen pop even though she's 30 and generic sound without a trace ofAfter everything she's been through, I was expecting a mature, personal and deep album. Instead, we got the worst possible. Of course her blind fans are going to come here to give it a 10 but this album is a HUGE, MASSIVE disappointment. Listening to it was painful. Poorly written songs, shallow lyrics, ridiculous teen pop even though she's 30 and generic sound without a trace of personality. Sad because she used to be one of my favorite artists. The album sounds like a collection of effortless soulless songs that any other untalented artist could have sang. Plus a disastrous duet with Nicki Minaj.     A mediocre album, you can realize that is like she just lost her essence, there's nothing original in this album, it's not bad in every way but not what you would expect from Avril Lavigne, an album going nowhere.

Avril has become a true and refined singer-songwriter, she's has been able to create a new music able to breathe the complexity of her emotions and her experiences, combining jazz, soul, indie and beat vibrations to the pop-rock power of her voice. The album is compact and homogeneous, tells a story full of facets and knows howI was kidnapped by the beauty and authenticity of this album. Avril has become a true and refined singer-songwriter, she's has been able to create a new music able to breathe the complexity of her emotions and her experiences, combining jazz, soul, indie and beat vibrations to the pop-rock power of her voice. The album is compact and homogeneous, tells a story full of facets and knows how to use all the potential of alternative influences to talk to listeners. I think this record has been unjustly underestimated by critics because it is true and nonconformist: it does not follow pop canons and is unique, take back the acoustic music of the nineties and the sound of the sixties.     The best tracks here are those which delve into the power ballads that we know Lavigne can produce so effectively. But other than the album's self-titled lead single and It Was In Me, with soaring orchestrals and subtle keys paving the way for her lung-bursting croons, it feels much like a lost Lavigne seeking a sound that’ll just keep her afloat.

    On every track, the mad-libs are paired with stylistically diverse arrangements--and invariably plodding tempos. The album’s lone sugar spike is “Dumb Blonde,” a rehashed “Girlfriend” that features a phoned-in Nicki Minaj guest verse midway through and, for some reason, a pre-chorus melody yanked from Lipps, Inc.’s “Funky Town.” In spite of everything, Head Above Water offers one brief moment where Lavigne’s emotional alchemy assumes a bolder musical form that’s properly befitting of her powerhouse vocals and enduring authenticity: the opening stunner of a title track.
