    Though Emerging Adulthood does push Croll far out of his personal comfort zone to a certain extent, it does feel like he could go further with the complexity. Nevertheless his musicianship is undeniable, as each and every instrument on the record is played by himself.

    Occasionally he lands on a flourish that expresses something specific, like the jarring MIDI-ish guitar tone on 24 which, in its anxious jaggedness, is an apt counterpart to the lyrics 'Please don’t let it be a heart attack'. More often though, he’s happy to settle for novelty alone. And while that’s no crime, it’s unlikely to set your world on fire either.

    This seems just to mean lots of beeps and bloops and using a theremin, rather than any structural inventiveness or lyrical avant-gardisms. Still, he's conjured a neat package of 10 perfectly listenable songs. [Sep 2017, p.106]

    A fantastically overproduced album that contains some of Dan's best work to date. Overlooking the weaker singles like One Of Us and Swim, itA fantastically overproduced album that contains some of Dan's best work to date. Overlooking the weaker singles like One Of Us and Swim, it holds gems such as January, Do You Have To, Sometimes When I'm Lonely and 24 that raise the album above and beyond what the singles projected it to be. A fantastic album that fits perfectly in Dan's discography, and a fantastic sophomore album that expands on Sweet Disarray's supremely.… Expand
